Q: I see that isrg is up very strongly (3%) on very large volume, in a down market. I can't find any news. Do you have any information that might account for such a strong move in such a weak market?

Q: I am going to add Gold to my portfolio and am looking for your advice. I really like the Franco-Nevada model being that they have royalties and do not own mines, but it seems quite expensive? Thoughts on evaluations etc ? Depending on your thoughts I would like to add FNV and an actual gold miner. The ones I have listed have a larger market cap as I am not interested in too small of gold miners.
With all the things going on in the world right now, how concerned are you of a recession in the US that will drag Canada into it? The flags I am concerned about right now are: 10yr bull market, US balance sheet issues, repos, inverted yield curve, Fed policy (decreasing interest rates), trade war, global slowing. A lot of other countries hold US paper........ It makes you wonder how much more debt the US can endure and maintain a strong dollar.
We all know that there is going to be a correction at some point in the future....but something to me feels different about what is coming. Maybe I am just a paranoid investor...I have to quit watching the prepper shows!
Besides gold what is the best way to protect ourselves in the event that the US has a financial crisis that affects their dollar?

Q: Buffett has bought into Crown Castle. Is American Tower the better buy? Both are Reits which will benefit from 5G. Perhaps prudent to hold an equal weight in both for diversification?
Q: Given a 15% withholding fee for US investments, which S&P based index fund would be the most favourable to hold in a RRSP in Canada. Either HXS, VFV, XSP, ZSP to reduce the yield drag on non-recoverable withheld taxes. Of course HXS has none withheld to date but does have a pending distribution perhaps at year end.
Q: 5-I,
I own CPD plus 5 individual rate reset preferred shares with reset dates ranging from 2020 to 2022. . When I look at the gains / losses I see CPD has been hit much more than any of the individual items over the past year. My question relates to how the NAV is determined with CPD. Is it very similar to that of a mutual fund , ie if many sales orders are received the ETF needs to liquidate, thus causing a drop in NAV? Any other thoughts why such a large performance difference between CPD and individual preferred shares ?
Thank you,
Paul

Q: Can you please list your top 5 recession-proof stocks? Please include ones that grew their earnings in 08/09. Thank you.
Q: Back in July, David was asking about CSAV to park emergency fund money in and you seemed to like PSA more because of the liquidity of a larger fund.
It looks like CSAV now has around $300M in assets. Is that large enough to remove any concerns about liquidity? CSAV has a slightly lower MER but their monthly payout seems to fluctuate more so I'm not sure which to choose for emergency funds.
Thanks

Q: At what point do you sell the stock or double up on your share count. The ‘fundamentals haven’t changed’,only peoples perception on its stock price has changed and I have a 5 year hold. I have contemplated waiting for another sharp drop and buy additional shares - like double my present position. OR I thought that if the stock hit the 200 day moving average I would sell. FYI - I bought the stock at $40 ish and sold at $80 ish. Bought again at $100 ish and sold at $150 ish. Finally I bought it again at $180 ish and still own the stock. Like all of us I have owned stocks that went up and down dramatically only to hold on to long, ie Valient.

Q: Hi,
Down, down, down. I realize this was (is) overvalued and a growth play and there is sector rotation out of growth stocks. Where might you expect this to bottom out at?

Q: Basing on u top pick on market call on Aug 8/18 I bought it @ $9.10,a drop of 24% to current 1.5% position.I think this is not in U portfolios.Despite recent increase in dividend,co's buy back of shares, recent insider buying by Chairman(300k shs @ $7.30) who is very motivated & ambitious,& decent results last Q,it gets no investor love. After results on Aug 6($6.15 then) it rallied nicely to reach $7.94 on Aug 26,then declined to current $6.95.Please advise if I should continue to hold,& if not, suggest a replacement(can be any sector). Thanks for u usual great services & advices

Q: Hi, i have one TFSA account that represents 3.7% of my total investments. i want to change the objectif of this account for revenue. No issue on risk and a time horizon of 5 to 10 years. Q: 1. I hold Methanex shares and bought them at 90 CAD.
I like the company fundamentals and also the fact that they recently buy back their shares. As I have some capital gains up to date, I want to know if you would recommend me taking half a position and taking advantage of the tax loss and buy k back after 30 days at the current lower price or I don't do nothing and wait for the stock to go back up?
2. Is there a co-relation with lower interest and preferred shares and bank stocks not performing well ? I own ZHP and the stock has been trading sideways for some time.
Thank you
