Q: Hi 5i - what do you think of Tahoe Resources going forward? I see it had a 220 million dollar unusual expense last year that hurt it's numbers. Do you know what that was for?

First, Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all the staff at 5i.

In the last couple of days I have noticed that my Mawer 104 & Mawer 105 have dropped significantly. The overall markets, at least in Canada and the US, have been healthy.

Can you help me understand why this is occurring?

Q: My question is about year end taxes for capital gains or losses. If I sell a stock on say Dec 28, is it considered a gain/loss for the 2016 tax year or 2017 tax year? The "settlement date" always appears to be three trading days after the sale date. I am guessing the "settlement date" is the date that is used for tax gains/losses - is that correct? Is there a specific date in 2016 when the gains/losses are considered to be in 2017 - Dec 28?

Q: I know you like BEP.UN but have heard some criticism about lack of transparency in reporting - what they actually own-etc. Is this a legitimate concern and what would be your second choice in the renewable power field?

Q: I heard on BNN that one way to find out if stocks are overbought is to look if 80% of companies in an exchange are trading above 50 day moving average. I would appreciate if you can provide your thoughts about this and if it does work, where can I find this information.

Q: Greetings 5i team: Could you please comment on the above stocks with respect to their current versus historical valuations? I guess I am trying to gauge the extent(if at all)their share price is being "propped up" by their yield. I think I know the sectors that are considered most vulnerable to interest rate increases, but do any companies jump to mind that could be more negatively affected than their peers, particularly if rates rose faster than the market anticipates or for the wrong reasons, i.e. inflation versus economic growth? Q: What's your assessment of this $200 million that Fairfax invests in CHR? Do you see that as opening a new and broader chapter for CHR's growth and expansion of its business?

We plan to buy a tech stock. We are retired and conservative, although with a certain percentage of some safer growth stocks.

We are impressed that Warren Buffett ventured into the tech field by buying Apple and wonder whether we should follow suit.

But we are also looking at Google and are wondering whether it may have a better future.

We would appreciate your thoughts on which one you think might be the best buy right now.

My wife is finally getting around to diversifying her portfolio and still has to high a weighting at 18.9% in Energy. Her holdings are CPG 4.89%, SPE 3.89%, TOU 2.78%, and WCP 7.34%. She also has 11.01% of her portfolio in PPL.

What do you think she should hold, trim or modify?

Q: What is your view on Decisive Dividend Corp. on the venture exchange? I expect you will say it is risky due to it's size and short trading history. It does have a nice dividend though.

Q: Could you please give me your opinion on LIF - I purchased it at $20.24- it has a 4.9% dividend - is it a sell,hold or buy

Q: A few days ago it was announced that the go ahead for Argonaut Gold's San Antonio project had been declined by the authorities. According to one report this should not materially affect their production. Am just wondering what your feeling is about this event. Also do you have any other updates on the existing production and exploration potential of the company. The price has dropped substantially and I am considering buying more. Thanks.

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

I find that we need to buy some more in the Utilities sector, to keep to a 10% weighting. We presently have about a three-quarter position in each of AQN, BEP.UN, and FTS. Do you think that INE would be a good addition to this mix or is it too similar to AQN and BEP.UN? We can buy and sell XUT commission-free, but I notice that ZUT (not commission-free) has a better chart. Should I increase our positions in each of the three we already have, buy a new one, or top up with XUT/ZUT? Or is there a US ETF in this sector that looks compelling? Or perhaps in the present "climate", could the utilities sector weighting be reduced below 10%? What sector should take up the slack?

Q: Good morning Peter, I purchased PUR in early August based on your company report and have watched it steadily decline 21% since. I know you continue to recommend this as a growth stock with risk, while stressing the need for a long term hold. It seems I've got the risk side covered, so my question is whether you have changed your position about the growth potential. I can wait on this stock and will hang in there if warranted. What are your thoughts? As always, I appreciate your invaluable advice.
