Q: I am for the most part a conservative investor. The captioned equities form part of my high risk and in this case, high loss casino money portion of my portfolio.
Individually, none are material holdings and being in my TFSA provides no tax selling benefits. I periodically check similar high risk positions I sold and in some cases, more patience would have yielded high returns! Benj Gallander is a rather unique investor; his patience is what catches my attention and his results are not shabby!
Assuming I am willing to be very patient with no time horizon, is there any reason to believe any of these stocks are worth keeping for high returns? It is not a question of getting my capital back, rather should I hold them or move on to other high spec ideas? If time to move on, any bottom fishing ideas especially as we move into tax loss trolling in this segment of the market?
I appreciate the insight you provide to the more macro aspects that often are the prime focus of my questions. Your responses to all questions are very educational and informative. They make us all far better investors.
Q: Good morning and thanks for your service which is invaluable to me...I hold cbl - crh - gps - ikm - itc - and phm ... all except cbl are owned in protected account and all represent 5% of my portfolio at cost and 3.5% current value.. my question is what if anything should I do with these stocks as my portfolio is up over 13% this year with your other stocks...thanks...Gene
Q: A couple of recent sources have suggested lower iron ore prices next year. I own LIF in several accounts and I'm wondering about selling about 25% at current prices and buying back next year at lower prices. I am enjoying the last two dividends of about 5% each. Do you see this as a reasonable approach to bring down my average cost as I purchased at much higher prices years ago. Thanks, love your service.

Q: What are your thoughts of this closed-end fund? It has public and private investments, trades at a discount of course and with leverage to financials. I also wonder whether there would be a potential tax hit as I see they have gold acreage in Quebec carried at $0 ACB. I wonder what your opinion of management is - something here? Thanks! as a follow up to my question just asked, if you were to buy, would you look at the voting or NV shares? Thanks
Q: Could I get your take on PLC please. Growth by acquisition seems to be a natural here or has there been a competitor that has already scooped up the small town family owned funeral service players across Canada? I think of Service Corp out of Houston as perhaps the role model for the future of PLC???
Q: Hello 5i, Last year you indicated that PTG had a lot of debt and was priced for no surprises. I sold position and bought PHO. I am thinking of reentering PTG in a half position and selling half PHO,your comments please.
Q: Chesswood Group seems to be on track for more growth this quarter, do you agree? Is their dividend safe at these levels? Why is there such low trading volume in the stock, is it because the institution holders don't want to sell. Looks like a good entry point to me, thanks.
Q: I would appreciate your updated view of Baylin. Does the recent filing of a "Preliminary Base Shelf Prospectus" indicate that there will likely be further equity dilution?
Q: Hi, can you please analyze rti, radient technologies. They have an interesting exposure to the cannabis industry and perhaps a good way to play it. Please provide info on future revenue growth and thoughts on technology. Thanks.
Q: I bought NMX in 2015 at .36 and sold it in 2016 for 1.84 then bought it back again at $1.09. It is up 60% since July. With today's surge it has reached 10% of my portfolio. Again. But compared with similar projects it is undervalued (ie Mason LLG.X that is at 2.25 and is no where near starting production). My dilemma is do I hold on or take profit. I am well diversified and going to retire in 60 days.
Can you provide an opinion of the potential of this little company please? As a tiny, pre-revenue? company I expect they aren't even close to being on your radar but it's the concept and/or target industry niche that has me questioning whether there is potential and worthy of monitoring them for a while.
Thank you
Mike
