Q: Hi, the big us banks have all come down significantly lately and some hitting multi years lows. What is your opinion about the situation and would it be a buying opportunity ? Can you explain why they fell down so much. I know that Warren Buffet loves them a lot for many decades. Which one is your number one pick ? Thanks

Q: hello 5i:
recently, I asked a question about WFC. Thanks for your prompt reply. However, it leads to a second part. I already own BNS and BMO in a weighting I'm comfortable with, but do wish to add another financial (not sold on JPM). TD seems to have a large US presence, something I want, while also seeming to find favour with you over the years as a "go to" name in the financial sector. Obviously then (if I have this right), you'd take TD over WFC. But would just adding to BNS or BMO be a viable option? The only factor these banks seem to lack is the larger US presence.
thanks

Q: I'm interested in researching US financial institutions for new investment ideas. Could you provide me with a shortlist of 4 to 5 US companies (e.g., chartered banks and any other financial institutions) that I might consider. Many thanks.

Q: Have been underweight financials for a while. To deploy a bit of cash was thinking of three options: add to BNS or start a position in either GWO or WFC. Am partial to dividends with some growth. Your recommendation please.

Q: Hi Team, I'm doing some portfolio clean up and am looking to sell some losers...of the stocks listed, which ones would you sell first in order first to last. Also, could you give me recommendations for where to put the money back to work for the top 3 sells?

Q: I believe JPM is your preferred US bank based on a prior question. I'm wondering if you can compare and contrast it to Wells Fargo and make the case for one over the other? I'm curious as P/E difference seems insignificant between the two. The Buffet backing of Wells Fargo is interesting as well. Can you comment on why he prefers it? Take 2-3 credits as needed! Thanks

Q: HI 5i,

Concerning American banking system, rumors are that under the Trump governance, some banks have gone back to the same financial strategies as before the financial crisis of 2008. I do have those 3 American bank in my retirement portfolio. Should I get a ride of those and, if the answer is yes, any suggestion for replacement.

Thanks you

Q: My allocation to US financials is higher than I had planned at approximately 26 to 28%. I do not HAVE to sell, not having strong ideas where to redeploy. However, subject to your input, I thought it might be prudent to sell or trim. (Selling or trimming would also provide cash reserve in case markets faint-- although 'gathering' dry powder is often counter productive). I ask your input, with reasons, on which of the following financials you would trim or let go entirely:
- WFC ; KIE (US insurance ETF) ; Lloyds Bank London (the ADR listed as LYG)
- KKR; BX (Blackstone)

I read various reports and did research. I didn’t find THAT much that I didn't like in the above. I am hoping you can tell me which ones are likely to show least total return, and why. I’d be grateful for your suggestions supported by your reasoning and any other thoughts you have. Many thanks

Q: Hello

I have been holding on to Wells Fargo for the last few years and unfortunately have missed the run up with the other US banks. Its currently in my TFSA, I've been considering selling and purchasing BAC or JPM. Which one would you recommend, is there still some upside? Etrade Financial (although more online trading platform) is another option, what are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Q: I currently own WFC but am thinking of trading it for either of V or BAC. Would you have a preference? Secondly, with earning season coming on, if one is thinking of doing some trading is it best to wait for all the dust to settle to make the trades you were going to make without regard to timing the quarterly report? Any trades I would do would be with a view to holding the stock long term.

Appreciate your insight.
