Q: Hello 5i team, the listed companies have had a rough period in terms of performance in the last 8 months seeing an average of 30% loss over the past year.

What are your current thoughts on them and what would you recommend for an investor looking for a long term hold?

“Best to hide in cash, bonds (Treasuries, Ginnie Mae mortgages, high-quality corporates), gold and the miners (silver too), defensive bond-proxies in the stock market that have decent yields and consistent dividend payout growth (stable dividend stocks are up +5% year-to-date), Japanese money market funds (ride the most undervalued currency on the planet and a BoJ set to raise short-term interest rates sooner rather than later), and diversify into the European Defense and Capital Goods sectors which now have more fiscal-related visibility.”

Can you provide some specific ideas (stocks and or ETFs) that match up with his recommended areas to ride this out?

Q: Assuming the current selloff continues, VIX goes up to 35+, and recession is almost certain in the US. Regardless of sector, what US/CAD stocks YOU would buy for capital appreciation if you have CAD$ 100,000? YOU plan to hold these stocks more than 3 years and you believe these companies will survive the economic downturn no matter how hard it will be.

Q: Is it at an attractive level to add to in order to get to a full position?

Q: I have a good selection of dividend stocks, paying 3-7%. Expecting the volatility in the Markets to continue for some time, is it better to opt out of the DRIPs, and let cash accumulate, or keep them on, to average out share purchase prices,
My thought is, if I cancel the DRIPs, I will accumulate cash that I can use to initiate a position 6 months or a year from now, in a stock that isn't even on my radar today, or buy a larger amount of one or two of the existing stocks that might be unfairly beaten down. I would set Buy Alerts on each stock, and reevaluate anytime an Alert is triggered. Thank you for your advice.

Just a clarification question . If i was to buy either of the above two ETF's via the TSX , i'm assuming they would be bought with Canadian dollars .
When i go to place the order it expresses the purchase in US dollars .
Please clarify .

Q: Do you know what the tax consequences will be for Veren shareholders? I see no mention so I am assuming that this will be a taxable event. I'm hoping that as a merger it will not result in capital gains taxes but just an adjustment to the ACB.

Q: Can I get your take on Amerigo? I am thinking they might start getting more credit for their more recent focus on share holder returns (buy backs, divy, and special divies) all while paying down debt (forecast zero by year end). Q: If all of your portfolio was in cash and you wanted to buy a cash-like etf, would you be okay with buying 1 or 2 etfs or would you diversify the money across several cash-like etfs? Thank you.

Q: Anticipating a downturn in '25 I promised myself that I wouldn't ride the market down like I did in '22 so I bailed on most of my tech holdings, at least temporarily. I am looking to park the cash with the following criteria:

1. Immediate access i.e. no locked in GICs.
2. Highest reasonable yield
3. Modest volatility

What is your current view of the highest yielding Hamilton ETFs and can you recommend any competitors or other options?
