Q: Payout ratios

I am confused about payout ratios. I have read here several times that you prefer to stick with dividend income stocks that have payout ratios below 50%. You have also suggested recently that the following were good solid choices for dividend income stocks. Your website does not include payout ratios, but I suspect your calculation is different from those I have found elsewhere. Below are the payout ratios I found in other places. As you can see, they are mostly above 50%, and some are above 100%!

Could you please comment on your calculation of payout ratios, that have these below 50%, or why the high ratio is acceptable presently?

Q: I have followed 5i research since 2013 and used the model portfolios to tremendous advantage resulting in more that doubling the capital in my portfolio. I have been all Canadian from the beginning having fear of the US stocks. (and still do) However I am wondering if its time to dip into the US and International markets. Do you think it is appropriate at this time and how would you approach this. I could just transfer some stocks to a US account. I am a retired growth/income investor. By the way I followed many talking heads on BNN before 2013 and none impressed me more than Peter. That is why I took the plunge into the 5i Research philosophy. Many thanks Peter.

Q: Hi ? I have done well with RBF1030 (RBC Life Science & Technology).
Do you see a net advantage to replace it with one or two ETFs ? If so, which ones ?

Q: I see MAXR is up about 9% today as I write this email. There doesn’t seem to be any explanation for this rise from my admittedly limited news sources. Do you know of any reason for the bump? Bye-the-way when do they report?

I hold the above companies in the US side of my RSP account and am wondering about holding both JPM and BAC. Would you recommend dropping one of these US banks and if so which one? Q: Well again getting into a mining stock is killing my portfolio. I bought TV ONLY ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO AT $1.11 only to see it now at .81. Down almost five grand in that short a period of time. Very frustrating. I don’t want to hold for three years HOPING to get back to even. If YOU owned running a portfolio would you take the rest of the money that is left and RUN somewhere else. It is in my RRSP so no tax implication.

Q: I have 4 stocks on my US watch list and even when the market is underperforming they always outperform the Market. One of them TRHC I asked you about awhile ago and you said it was a good growth story. I should have acted on it then. The other 3 are SRPT, NTLA and FNKO. He is quite excited about a new product, similar to "acorn" which I believe operates as a trading platform in the form of a downloadable app., and allows trade, buy, sell crypto with ease. I think I know your answer, but what do you think of investing in this idea? Is there an existing platform?
