Q: My son has US$100K to invest in a non-registered account. He would like to keep it simple and invest in a low fee ETF for balanced growth. Please suggest suitable investment vehicle in USD denomination.

Q: Good morning. There seems to be a growing amount of chatter about the market being in a bubble. If one accepts this premise, what would be your top 2 defensive sectors and top 5 defensive stocks to build positions in? Either Canadian or US. Thanks.

Q: I have owned BTE for a few years now and it is no surprise I am underwater on it in all the accounts it is held. As the price of oil continues its slow march downward I am working out what to do with my O&G stocks. Most are solid companies and many have a decent dividend to tide one over. Baytex is one that does not; that is in addition to its dismal performance over the years.

I would like to know if the assets of Baytex, at some point, would be a useful "fit" for another firm when merger mania hits the oil patch? If so, who would be the likely bidders?

With oil price forecasts into 2025/26 looking dismal if one abandons the idea of a suitor buying BTE, would you still view it as a hold, or is it better sold and the money put to a more accomplished non-O&G growth story?

Thanks as always.

Dave

Q: Hi Peter and 5i,
May please have your thoughts on NVDA's announcement that META and ORCL will adopt its Spectrum-X Ethernet networking switches for their AI data centers.
Do you have an opinion on how much this will affect ANET's market position?
Would you look at exiting a position in ANET based on this competitive threat?
ANET is down 13% on Monday and Tuesday.
Thanks so much.

"Arista Networks (NYSE:ANET) stock fell 2.4% Monday after NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) announced that Meta (NASDAQ:META) and Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) will adopt its Spectrum-X Ethernet networking switches for their AI data centers.
NVIDIA revealed that Meta will integrate Spectrum Ethernet switches into its networking infrastructure for the Facebook Open Switching System (FBOSS), while Oracle plans to build giga-scale AI supercomputers with Spectrum-X Ethernet switches.
The announcement appears to have triggered concerns about potential competition for Arista Networks, which is a major provider of cloud networking solutions and data center switches. Investors may be viewing NVIDIA’s expanding footprint in the networking space as a competitive threat to Arista’s market position."

Q: I just bought a small position in Jaguar Mining. I have never considered JAG an interesting gold mining company but it came to my attention that currently there is an interesting turn around story at JAG. JAG had an accident at their turmalina mine which took one of their two mines off line as well as it saddled JAG with a $50 USD fine from the Brazilian government. Subsequently that fine has been reduced to $10 USD and turmalina is scheduled to be back producing gold in 2026. Meanwhile the high price of gold has allowed JAG to have free cash flow even with only on performing mine. So IF all goes well with the restart of turmalina and the price of gold is good, let's say over $3500 per ounce, JAG should have good cash flow.
What I don't understand is why JAG raised $28 million on Tuesday with an equity raise. Through reading articles I was lead to believe that JAG had net cash on the balance sheet, so why would they raise more? Can you use your bloomberg terminal and confirm if JAG has debt or net cash on the balance sheet prior to the equity raise? I am considering of adding to my position of JAG because of the turn around potential, but what do the 5i guys think of JAG. I have lots of Agnico and B2Gold plus a little bit of aalmos and K9 in Papau Guinea so I am looking for somethin a little more speculative in a junior gold producer, do you have other ideas? Also about 48 per cent of Jaguar shares are owned by Eric Sprott (I believe it is his personal holding since they are held via a numbered company in Ontario). I look at that as a positive but is there a downside to have one rich dude nearly controlling the company? I know this is long question!

Q: Hi,
I have too many small positions with a 1% holding in the stocks listed above. I would like to sell one and increase the holdings of the other 2 stocks. Which one would you sell? No tax implications and want to keep which ever you think has the best outlook going forward.
Thanks
Kerri
