Q: Starting a new portfolio of higher risk stocks to offset my more strategic long term investments. I have listed several juniors that are either in your Growth Portfolio or have been lately receiving considerable attention. Would appreciate your comments, order of preference & recommandations. Q: Own HLF took the ride down and back up at a nice profit but is there anymore left. Like the rationnalisation story im progress. Dowgraded at Scotia this morning due to price runup but it looks cheap to me on a forward p/e basis ? Thinking of maybe switching to PBH which is a lot more expensive on p/e basis.
Would like your take on these stocks ?

Q: Good Morning: I want to realize some capital losses on the above energy positions (and others) but do not want to lose exposure to the energy asset class in case of a sudden move upwards (even though I don't expect that in the short term.) So, my plan is to sell all or parts of my losers and buy something else that will give me the same effective exposure. My question is as follows: First, what four stocks in the Cdn. energy sector would you recommend for a purchase at this time; and second, would an etf like XEG be an effective alternative for all or part of this strategy. I may even buy back some of the positions I am currently selling after the 30 day wait period has passed. As always, many thanks. Don

Q: If you were asked to create a Canadian dividend Aristocrat ETF what holdings would you include? Would you equal weight the holdings? Would you diversify it across sectors? How would you base your selections against payout ratios or higher dividend payers? How often would you review the selections and how many names would you hold. Why might you want to do this type of ETF over another example such as growth, small cap index, value , GARP, etc.? Also please compare your Model portfolio to such an ETF. What makes the model portfolio different from this approach? Sorry for the longer question. To sum it up I am hoping to get a feeling of your strategies from the answer. Thank You Jeremy

Q: Am thinking of increasing my Energy Sector. Already have SU & ARX and considering adding CNQ or VET. What would be your choice here and how would that (or any other you would prefer) compare with SU & ARX? Looking at the next 1 to 2 yrs only. Of course I understand you may say 'don't increase'. Always look forward to your answers. Thks guys

Q: Hi 5i team!! I am at a conference in Arizona, and just the feeling I get polling my colleagues, all of whom are academics, the general consensus is that Trump will be the next US president. Hillary is not a favorite because of allegedly crooked behaviour which I was unaware of. The way I look at it, neither one, Trump or Clinton are a good choice but that's a moot point. So, to my question...what do you suggest.. If the Donald gets in ...should we sit tight on your suggested portfolios or sell certain stocks, or sell everything and head for the hills ? Which stocks will do poorly and which ones may do well? Cheers, Tamara

Q: Hi Folks, have been wanting to put some of my investments into US funds.
Recently read an article by John Heinzel in the Globe and Mail stating that the best way to invest in US funds is through an RRSP or RRIF which seemed to make sense from a tax point of view.
When I contacted my broker, Scotia iTrade, I was told that only Canadian dollars not US dollars could be in my RRIF account.
Could you please give me your opinion as to which is correct and if Heinzel is correct, how is it done?

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

In today's Financial Post, there's an interesting article called "Betting on the U.S. election via the ‘Trump ETF’"

If one wanted to "bet" on a Hillary victory, would a small purchase of EWW be a wise move? Any hesitation I have is due to currency risk, but I am unsure.

Q: This week EcoSynthetix got its first commercial client for its Durabind adhesive and its share price increased accordingly. Have you any feel for where the share price might go as EcoSynthetix adds more customers, i.e.; do you think the present share price represents a top until the market sees how the new business is affecting the bottom line? Is this a good time to be adding more shares?
