Q: Good morning, between CCL.B and RPI.UN which would you view as a 'better' company to initiate a position in now? Assuming a long term view (5-10 years).
Q: I hold AMGN and see from your recent responses that it's a 5i favorite. The metrics do not appear to justify your support, so I wonder if I am looking at the wrong data. PEG is sky high (over 4); forward P/E is almost 14 ; ROE is only 6.6. The data above is from a premium site which differs from the Yahoo Finance site which shows forward P/E at 13.09 and PEG at 3.3 with ROE at only 7.18. Net margins do look healthy but I cannot tell from 3 sites I checked whether net margin % data is fwd looking or refers to historical.
Although AMGN appears to have been a dividend grower (not a dividend aristocrat that I know of ) , it’s dividend payout is very high at 171%.
Yet there must be something about AMGN that you like a lot.... perhaps something not shown on reported data. Is it AMGN's pipeline? Projected cash flow? I would prefer not to sell my holding until I can understand what it is about AMGN that you like so much. I would appreciate your insight very much (am not looking so much for basic or raw numbers available on popular sites---but I really would appreciate your thoughts, thanks).
Q: hi folks:
under the heading of "if it ain't broke why fix it.........."
sitting on a double; chart looks parabolic
aside from rebalancing to 5% (from 11) is there any compelling reason to sell?
ie. do the fundamentals still look supportive ?
Q: Hi 5i:
In your recent (Feb. 15th) income portfolio changes you recommended selling the full position in NTR. I have not yet sold my position.
Does your opinion change in anyway after their announcement of their US$1.60 per share dividend? The dividend seems decent?
Thanks so much for all the great information.
I am looking for your best ideas (small / medium / large cap) to invest in the ongoing and ever-increasing move to 5G. Telcos will be spending billions over next decade. And ultimately benefitting of course. But which companies will benefit from that, or government's (?) spending? Mostly interested in Canadian-based companies. I know AMT and CCI are the big players in US. Any chance they get a foothold in Canada? Does small company like Baylin have unique expertise to deliver in this space? Are they well-managed and well-known enough? Anyone else?
I am trying to keep positions to a reasonable amount (less than 40). I like both these companies for good upside. If you can have only One, which one would it be, and why? What are the pros and cons of each.
Q: Hi 5i: Just a suggestion in relation to Elaine’s question about dealing with large embedded capital gains in a taxable account. If you are someone who makes charitable donations anyway, consider giving some of your highest percentage capital gains away by donating the shares instead of cash. For your own tax deduction purposes you get a tax receipt for the full value of the donated shares (capital gain included) but you don’t have to pay the tax on the gain to do it. An organization called CanadaHelps is worth checking out online as a facilitator. Before the New Year I was able to transfer a bunch of my PUR shares to them (after the takeout bid!), specify that I wanted the donation split in 12 different directions, and select the 12 different charities to receive individual donations equivalent to specific numbers of the shares. It was relatively easy for me given all the administrative work they looked after. And I got a bigger tax receipt than I would have if I had sold the shares, paid the tax, and donated the leftovers.
Q: Does ENF carry any debt . If not would it be safe to say higher interest rates affect it to a lesser extent then say ENBRIDGE that carries substantial debt ?
Q: Hi, RHT and VB were added to 5i Balanced and Growth portfolios, respectively, last week. Does it mean that the risk/growth profile of Versa Bank ( Growth) is higher when compared to Relique Health ( Balanced ) ? Any rationale, why this and not vice-versa.
Also, I could not find much information about Versa Bank in Q&A section. Could you please provide some more details/comments about this co. Thanks
Q: Hello 5i, just a comment. I have a note that some "locked in" shares in Reliq become come "unlocked" today Feb.22. That might be the reason for the slide in price.
Dave
Q: Hi, Now that RHT has been added to 5i portfolio, could you please provide an initial very brief summary on the company, including a possible 5i rating and growth expectations, specially there being no analyst coverage. Comments about the management will also be helpful. Share count seems to be large. What is the insiders and major institution holdings (separately) ? Considering that Patient Health Monitoring was touted by several high profile portfolio managers for a long time but at last, proved to be a huge disappointment to a large number of retail investors (including many of them being 5i subscribers), any relevant details will be most comforting. Thank You
PS: I know, you mentioned that there is no rush to buy/sell a stock based upon 5i portfolio changes. But, I did take a small position on Friday, but would love to have more insight/comfort before adding more. Tks
Q: Please comment on CGX's precipitous decline since last July. What is the primary cause of the decline? Rising interest rates? The stock was hardly fazed by the '08 financial crisis. I am considering adding it to my income portfolio. It isn't cheap on a valuation basis but is on an income basis.
Q: Hi, photon sold the flow meter product line. In your view is this a good transaction? The stock price fell a bit yesterday, was this related to the news? thanks.
