Q: Hey,
It looks like the last question on Burcon was in July. Has your thoughts changed any since then? It looks like a few positive press releases including a "GRAS" letter for some of their products from the FDA.
Q: Hello 5i,
I moved an asset from a sheltered account to a non sheltered account. I sold the same asset at a loss 10 days later. Is this a superficial loss?
Q: I have been monitoring the above list of stocks. I have some cash to deploy in the names. Can you please list the above names in your preferred order to purchase them. Which ones you like the best? Should I wait for tax loss selling season to see more pressure on the names. Thank you for your opinion.
Q: Had tax-loss sold LGO in September, full intending to buy back around now. But the falling price of vanadium is giving me pause. It has dropped a lot in the last week, and if it stays at this level and see Y/Y earnings taking a hit. Thank goodness they got rid of their prior sales agreement, however do you see price revovery for LGO over the next year? Based on vanadium pricing it seems more pain to come unless this is already baked into the valuation.
Q: In response to my last question you suggested adding ESGD and ESGE to the portfolio with CRBN and ZLB. Would VSGX effectively do the same thing? I would want to keep the number of etfs to manage to a minimum.
Q: In years past, I attended 3 of Larry Berman's travelling roadshows held in major cities across Canada. I like him and find him very personable. Also, he's a polished seminar presenter. However, what I took away from each of those events was "impending recession" and "lower for longer". Eventually I stopped attending. Since then, when a local roadshow would be planned, I'd be e-mailed (maybe 2x). This past month, I was e-mail 'bombed' with no fewer than eight (8) reminder emails from Larry (over a two week period) inviting me to register for his seminar. What do you think that might mean ;-)
I would value your assessment of MIC's recent earnings announcement as well as your commentary on what their indication that they are going to: "to actively pursue strategic alternatives including a sale of the Company or its operating businesses as a means of unlocking value for shareholders." might mean for those of us who hold this investment?
The market's initial reaction was extremely positive but having been down the "strategic alternatives" path previously with Calidus Capital, to a disastrous conclusion, makes me personally rather circumspect. Thank you!
Q: Why are U.S. banks moving so much higher with interest rates and their spread so low? Do investors believe they are at a bottom? Have JP Morgan and that has performed beautifully. What do you think between Citicorp and Bank of America?
Q: Hello Team,
My question is that this stock has done well for me but I do not have it in a tfsa or rrsp etc...
With this in mind would it be best to sell, so as to save on the new proposed tax when they change?
Was hoping to hang on to it for some time yet.
John
Do you agree that there is a value gap between large and small cap stocks? BNN said ..."Michael Burry of The Big Short fame recently called this phenomenon the index bubble or ETF vortex and he is investing heavily in small-cap value stocks worldwide. "
Would you try to exploit this? Are there any CDN or US small cap ETF's you'd recommend?
Q: Just a comment on pros and cons of receiving distributions as return of capital. While a nice problem to have I believe if the ROC results in the capital cost base going negative the ROC is taxed as income.
