Q: I have a lot of bank stocks that I have been accumulated with the dividend
reinvestment plan over the last 30 years. I do not want to sell them because it would trigger a large capital gain, besides it is adding up to a lot of dividends, with I will use in my retirement. Yes, Yes I know that I am overweight in that sector. I want to protect myself on a down turn, and don't pike the puts , because the premiums are so high.I was thinking about the huv etf, I don't fully understand it, is there "time decay" as there is with leveraged etfs.Do you think that this product will suite my goals, and or do you have any other idea's that would protect me on the downside?
Q: I'm looking at some zinc exposure. Of the two companies ( LUN, HBM) which would you choose? Or do you have a better suggestion. HBM is having quite a run today. Thank you
Q: Hi Peter. I wonder if you have a favourite solar stock you could recommend. I see that Ray Kurzweil expects solar to continue growing exponentially for the next number of years. Are there any Canadian listed stocks involved in the solar industry that you like?
Q: I have held CKI for some time at a cost of $12 per share. It pays a good dividend but has had no growth. CKI has never been reviewed in 5i.Please provide your comments on that company. Should I continue to hold it for growth/income?
Q: TV went up 40% today. Can you account for this change? Other than a large number of shares diluting the value & a report of an ore find are the only news items. The low current price of the ore should have countered the find.
Q: Would appreciate your input on AW.UN as an addition to The income part of my portfolio. Good divi and seems pretty solid for a 1 - 5yr keep. It is close to its all time high tho. Do you think it is running out of steam?
Q: I have low exposure to the industrial sector and would like to
diversify by including some of those stocks into my portfolio. I
have WSP. What other stocks should I add? If possible,
please rank them from top to bottom, thanks!
Q: Good morning Peter, Can you gave me your opinion on the platinum market in general and Wellgreen Platinum (symbol WG) ...... short, medium and long term. Thanks DAN
Q: I request your opinion on National Oilwell Varco (NOV.us). I have been holding NOV. Didn’t cut my losses . Just as the behavioral science fellows correctly say, I held on to NOV, BHI, and many other oil-related 'enterprises'. I dreamt of fabulous wealth gushing from this black gold. I have now been rudely awakened from slumber. Oil is not, after all, the black gold one thought. Gold remains yellow and elusive, while oil is apparently plentiful. In your opinion , based on your experience, instinct and the data on your Bloomberg , are oil service companies more likely than not to rise in value by end of year ? Is NOV’s dividend safe... or did the Doha Club just pull the rug under us?
I will nurse my many painful wounds as I await your thoughtful response, O Wise One (I am bowing). and thank you for creating 5i and making it available to us.
Best wishes

Q: I am sitting on the sidelines with well over 6 figures intended for the oil patch. However, I have decided to wait a little longer based on current prices and/or conditions. In the interim I was contemplating parking funds into GUD based primarily on your very positive opinion of the CEO as well as the companies excellent Balance Sheet notwithstanding the current stock price which is currently flat from last year at this time. Your comments are appreciated. Thank you.
Q: Hello, I missed a notice about Hcg and its Dutch auction as I was away. What is a Dutch auction? I wouldn't know how to proceed even if I'd been in the country.
In my TFSA, I recently sold GS as I was able to take some profits thanks to the dividends, but was getting frustrated with the almost daily declines. As a result, I now have 22% cash.
I have the following:
24.4% Consumer Cyclical: DHX.B; XTC
10.3% Financial: CXI; CEW*
21.2% Industrials: ECI
11.7% Technology: DSG
10.4% Utilities: AQN
22% Cash
*CEW is a small holding of 2.6%. My iTrade account permits some ETF's to be purchased commission-free, so I use it when some non-dripped dividends are paid.
In an otherwise balanced portfolio, how would you deploy the cash? I was thinking about adding Kinaxis KXS, but would using all the cash make Technology too large a weighting? Or do you have some other ideas?
As always, I really appreciate your advice and insight.
