Q: Hi 5i,
I want to add an insurer to my RRIF for long term capital appreciation and income and have done something of a side-by-side comparing of MFC and SLF.
My findings (any one of which could be incorrect or overstated) are:
- Estimates of future growth and earnings favour MFC;
- Current dividend yield favours SLF by 0.30%;
- Past 1 yr, 3 yr and 5 yr shareholder return (whether dividends included or not)
significantly higher at MFC;
- MFC slightly less expensive based on P/E and more so based on P/B;
- SLF management is more experienced and pays itself less than does MFC
management.
Based on the foregoing MFC looks like the best choice over the long haul for the goals I've stated but I think historically you've favoured SLF, which leads me to ask: If you were to invest in one or the other for a RRIF at this time, which would you choose and why? Or would you go in 50/50 on each or in some other proportion?
Thanks 5i,
Peter

Q: Good Day,

AEHR recently hit my radar. Obviously much smaller than TER, but are they essentially in the same space? per the most recent questions on it, is it just getting noticed and there is some very real runway coming for the name?

Anything else in the sort of "next wave of AI requirements" that are currently in the 'oversupply but about to be sold out' that you can see? I asked a question in this regard around MU in early 24, and while where you pointed me I have done very well with, still wish I had grabbed a chunk of MU at 80-90$...

Thanks as always for the great advice

James

Q: I asked a question April 23rd regarding your personal holdings. Inquiring on the number of stocks and ETFs. Are you willing to disclose your personal holdings? You mentioned in another question the 3 Income focussed ETFs you hold. Curious on your stock selection. Thank you

Q: Celestica's stock was at $497 last November. Six months later, it's at $495. Meanwhile, it seems the entire semiconductor industry has exploded upward, along with everything associated with it, including cloud, memory, and AI. Do you have an explanation as to why CLS has been stuck in idle?

Q: I have held the 2 companies for several years now. I'm thinking about selling one as they have both been under performers. Which one do you think as the better longer-term growth.
Thanks

Q: Hi,
I've done very well with NBIS and GLXY. They are 6.4% and 4.2% of my portfolio now. What do you think about some of these other names or would you stick with NBIS and GLXY? Many have pivoted to AI compute from bitcoin and it seems as though some of these smaller names can really rip when they announce a new contract and I have a slight feeling of FOMO (although I love the pop on NBIS today). How would you rank these overall in terms of fundamentals, valuation, growth, risk? I'm am definitely sticking with NBIS and GLXY and I would look to trim and start a new position in one or two of the other names if warranted or needed. Thank you!

Q: Let's say you love a stock, but it's already a big % of your TFSA. Do any of 5i personally decide to let their love of it overflow into an unregistered account?
