Q: Hello 5i
As I watch several investments plumb new lows, it strikes me that things may have turned and I am unaware.
We have seen 5i exit some names that were originally intended for 5 year hold but today I have to say my investment measurements are lacking when it comes to exit signs.
In some cases, I would get out as the stock price breaks the uptrend but have been ignoring this giving some space for volatility.
Given my experience in finding stock prices equal to zero in my portfolio, I would rather buy stocks that go up.
How does an investor distinguish between a stock going to zero versus one that is just doing the volatility dance and on a temporary path to a short lived low price?
I would rather not be found holding companies indicating 40%, 60% and 80% losses going forward.
Your thoughts on this are appreciated.
Thanks
Dave
Q: I have held SYZ for sometime now and have become somewhat impatient. I would like your view of swapping it out in my TFSA for ITC? In particular your thoughts on risk/reward and future potential.
Q: Hi You make reference to insiders only being able to sell at certain times during the year. Could you explain further please? I know of blackout periods around earnings. Also on the plus side Acumen must like SYZ alot to pick up 500 000 shares in a block trade from the insiders.
Thx
Q: Follow the money. The company has been aggressively buying back shares during the past 12 months. Then there is very large insider selling by the the CEO followed by earnings that were poor and the share price is well below where most of the share repurchases occurred. If the company knew they were in a transition year (stated in their q release) and earnings were going to slow or falter should they have been buying shares back at 9-11 bucks? Or waiting till after this weak quarter to buy back shares at much better prices. Looks to me like the CEO is taking care of himself and not acting in our best interest. Your thoughts?
Q: Read your comments today on the disappointing results. If I remember correctly,SYZ recently signed a working arrangement with a big tech firm, think it is Google.Hold a half position. Please advise next course of action.Appreciate u usual great services & views
Q: Hello Peter and 5i team,
We were surprised to learn that TIO networks is being bought by pay pal. At an 86% gain we are very happy. Thank you for the recommendation. At the end of the month we will sell our holdings. It is in my wife's TFSA. Her current holdings are ET, KXS,GUD,LNR,SJ, and SYZ. This is our growth account as we have appropriate holdings of large caps and fixed income in our other accounts. In your opinion what would be a good addition to our current holdings or would you recommend adding to any of our current holdings?
thank you for the great service
Q: A couple of weeks ago I asked about when SYZ reports next. You indicated May 8. Today you indicated they report later this month. Please clarify which is correct.
Q: Hi Team...Thanks for what you do!
Any insight on Sylogist's price decline. I'm done about 25% since purchase I've been adapting 5I's phylosophy on good companies and holding the course.............Thanks. Sam
Q: What are the difference in listing requirements between the TSX and the TSX-V other than cost and possibly prestige. I have looked at the reports and releases put out by a TSX-V listed company, Sylogist, and can't really see much difference between what it puts out and what a TSX listed company, Intrinsyc Tech, puts out. Thanks
Q: Hello 5i
Would you please offer thoughts on Sylogist given we seem to be in a price decline phase - starting with an uptrend break in Sept-16?
Sure feels more than just drifting when a stock falls so hard in a single day. The charts (1&5 yr) are showing a technically broken-down stock not firmly in a downdraft. Am I being lulled to sleep with 5i positive tone and 5 year hypothical viewpoint - when I should really be taking action to protect my Capital?
Thanks
Dave
Q: I have a portfolio that I am happy with the mix of companies. I have in the past added to loosers and sold winners which I see is not your philosophy. I have half positions in both AIF and SYZ, I am down 8% in SYZ. Which would you add to with new cash and why?
Q: SYZ continues to drop - is there something "wrong"? Is it time to bail (ie. "stop loss") and buy something whose stock is increasing such as SHOP? Selling low (SYZ) and buying high(SHOP)is often not a good strategy unless the low is going lower and the high is going higher. Your thoughts on doing this trade.
Q: In reference to a question from Peter concerning Enghouse and Boyd, when or how do you determine winners(former?) are no longer winners? I have a few positions in which I have done quite well and despite nothing materially changing in the company, the stock price has stagnated or has been range bound for months.
I am reluctant to change companies just for the sake of change or to try to chase returns but often I am enticed by companies that seem to have momentum But this often throws off sector weighting?
Q: It appears SYZ has recently been covered by Morningstar with an overvalued rating, S&P Capital IQ with a buy and Thomson Reuters with a 4 out of 10. This might be contributing to some weakness in the share price of late.
Q: Hi there Bought a bit more of SYZ after what I thought were excellent quarterly results. Since then share price has been dropping steadily. Other than inside selling any other idea why this might be occurring? Another question I pondered about was how an insider sold 500000 shares in a couple days when the stock is so lightly traded. Do you think that was a single block trade - a prearranged transaction?
