Q: Hi 5i,
In response to Jacques frustration with RBC; I found solace in a free program called WeBull. It is available in phone and PC downloads. Up to the minute market and stock information, pre-market data on each US stock (this can be useful to see where stocks may open). Overall it is the best free program I have seen. There is an option for a subscription but for those of us who do not day trade the free program is very good.

Q: I owned a gold stock a very very long time ago: Placer Dome. I held it for quite a while and when I sold, I may have broke even. Since then, I have not help any gold stocks. Question: what are your thoughts on owning gold? I am of the opinion thus: own companies that produce something and have a history of increasing dividends every year. Some people are worried about inflation - not me - can't see it any time soon and devaluation due to all the money printing. Comments please with suggestion if gold is a consideration?

Q: What would be a good recovery play for funds in an RESP needed in 4 through 12 years? I sold half of my US based ETFs (VUN and VFV) near the top so I can move into something that hopefully outperforms the index, so to speak.
I am a little nervous about taking on over allocating to energy stocks and I have picked some up in my RRSP and TFSA and wondering about thoughts for the time frame referenced above. ETFs or stocks would be fine.

Q: In your April 20th response to Mike regarding FLTR, you said "We are not sure the company will list an ADR yet". I came across PDYPY which appears to be a FLTR ADR trading on the OTC market. It appears as if the ADR is .5 of a FLTR share.
- Is this correct?
- Is it possible to elect to receive the PDYPY ADR shares instead of the FLTR shares to avoid the excessive trading fees of buying and selling on the LSE?
- If so, are there downsides to owning the ADR other than making sure you put a limit price on any trade?
- I also noticed a PDYPF that appears to be FLTR shares trading on the OTC market but does not appear to have any trading volume. What is this and how does it compare to the ADR?
- if we can not elect to receive either of these in place of the FLTR shares and still want to be exposed to FLTR but not own LSE listed shares, I assume we would need to sell the TSGI shares in advance of the deal closing in May and buy one of these?
- which one would you recommend?
- will TSGI announce the closing date well in advance so those that want to sell have plenty of time?
Sorry for all the questions but I am confused and am hoping you can explain.

Q: Hi 5i - Retired income investor but also interested in growth. I have been holding FFH.PR.K:CDN for a number of years. Decent income but limited growth opportunity. It represents 1% of my portfolio. Portfolio analytics indicates I should increase my exposure to communications services. I've been thinking of selling FFH and buying BCE which I don't hold or adding to my current Telus holding (at 2.5%). Other options could be adding to Fiera (only 1% holding) or to TD (3.6%). Appreciate your thoughts and other options that provide relatively safe income with a greater long term upside. Really appreciate the good work you guys do!

Q: From your portfolios, can you please list the top 5 companies that are hit much more than they deserve in your opinion, and are solid investments in the next 5 years? That's for my children RESP, who need the money in 5 years.

Q: Hi !
I presently do all my transactions for the stock market on RBC Direct Investing. However, I am increasingly frustrated by the frequent breakdowns in the site. For example, this morning, 20 minutes before the opening of the market and now, 35 minutes after the opening, it is just impossible to check stocks or pass an order. In trying to reach the site, I get the following message: "The server is busy at the moment. Try later."
I understand the markets are seing increasing traffic lately, but I would expect the biggest bank in Canada to be up to the challenge.
Do you know if the problem of accessibility to direct investment account investment is similar in other providers of such service ?

Q: i am interested in buying SU in my Rif to offset a tax loss of the same company in my non registered account. I was wondering what you think of buying suncor at the moment. Also wondering how it can be up five percent today when oil is hammered so hard?

Q: We are now about 15% below the peak for the S&P 500 and 17% below the peak of the TSX this year. Do you think the market is being too optimistic in apparently giving us about an 85% chance that everything will go back to normal very soon?
