Q: Good day. I’ve been holding my stocks for just over 3 years without much adding subtracting and balancing. I have a few stocks that have declined quite a bit over that time. I think it’s time to sell a few of my losers and reinvest in better companies. The two equities in question are in a RRIF account. Magna is down 53% and CSW.B is down 31%. Each represents about 1% of my portfolio. Do these companies have a hope over the next 12 months or should I sell and move on. Can you recommend a replacement equity to purchase with the proceeds. Thanks

Q: hi. I am down on CSW, and am thinking of selling and locking in the tax loss, and immediately picking up ADW. do you see more capital gain potential in one versus the other? what do you feel is the better investment now?cheers, chris

Q: Hi. I’ve held Corby since April 2020 and did some profit taking in April when it was trading in the high $19’s; and added to PBH which was trading down.

I’d purchased Corby for safety/stability and reliable income. The dividend is variable and occasionally fluctuates. It has a low beta and has held up well until recently; as I suspect that many investors are seeking better opportunistic for growth.

I’’m considering selling Corby and moving to Loblaw’s Perpetual Preferred for largely the same reason I’d purchased Corby, for safety/reliable income with a lower beta and somewhat higher dividend. It is currently trading at $23.00. As interest rates fall, I can see where there will be some modest growth in addition to a relatively safe dividend. I’m considering L.PR in order to maintain my sector allocation.

In 5i’s view would this trade make sense, or would I be better off “staying the course” on Corby? I currently don’t have any preferred shares. My holdings in the Staples Sector are Corby, Northwest Company and Premium Brands.

Are there any other Staples Preferred shares (either rate reset or perpetual) that you feel are more attractive?

Thanks!

Q: ADW vs CSW? When I review past questions-answers and each of their metrics, I would lean towards ADW over CSW. What would be your choice?

Thanks...Steve

Q: I am looking for safe dividends and believe all of these companies meet that criteria (although recognizing that nothing is for sure these days). I would like to buy 2 companies. Which 2 would you pick from this list?

Q: Hi guys, I am looking for small and mid-cap companies with a great balance sheet and high likelihood of sustaining their dividends. Would Evertz and Corby fit the bill? Also, any others that you like for that criteria? Thanks Rob

Q: Looking at these companies. In your view do they look attractive and/or reasonable stable (of course considering the environment we are in).

Thanks.

Q: In a diversified RRSP, which two from above listed equities would be best chosen at this time (2-3 year hold) for income and some growth with strong consideration given to safety of the dividend.

Thank you.

Q: Hello 5i Team
1 - Please update CSW.A after last week's quarterly results.
2 - From the MD&A, Pernot Ricard owns 51.6 % of the class A (CSW.A).
Are there any other significant (>10%) shareholders of the Class A (CSW.A)?
Are there any significant holders of the Class B (CSW.B)?
3 - Could you speculate on whether Pernot Ricard would eventually take over CSW or is there an obscure provision in the Class B shares prohibiting this?
Thanks for the great service.

Q: Hi Peter, a follow up on my last question about voting and non-voting shares. Today Corby voting shares traded 14000+ shares and non-voting shares traded 665. Did you get part of the answer backward?
Thanks

Q: Hi Peter. When should an investor buy non-voting shares instead of voting shares in a company? Say Corby. The dividend is a little higher on the non-voting shares. Is this typical?
Thanks

Q: What are your thought on the latest quarter results? I hold in an Rrsp account doe income and fingers crossed a little growth. I am down a little but do not have a full position. Going forward is the out look positive? Would you add more at this stage assuming a slower economy scenario ? I like that it has no debt.

Q: Hi there,

I am always interested as much in which stocks do not make your income portfolio as which ones do. Is there a reason Corby has never made it - seems less volatile, good income , cash cow - on the other side very slow if any growth and low trading volumes. Just curious?
