Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: It seems one of the larger global concerns is supply chain management with obstacles from natural disasters (eg wildfires in Canada, flooding in Europe) to parts shortages (eg semi conductors) severely crimping the flow of goods. What would be the best investment approach in light of this concern? 5i's has in the past suggested DSG and KXS as suitable investments for example.

My thanks.

Q: Hello,

Could you please recommend a few 'set and forget' high growth stocks which would be a good fit for a RESP for the next 15-ish years?

Thanks

Q: I keep seeing CRWD come up as a good growth holding. I own the holdings mentioned earlier today in the 3 Cdn and 3 US growth recommendations, with the exception of CRWD. I'd have to sell something to buy it and own both UCTT and ICHR. I am wondering if there is some overlap between these two and whether selling one to buy CRWD is a good move - and if so, which one would be the better sell. If not, looking at CRWD peers, I also own PLTR. Would CRWD be a better growth holding than PLTR and warrant a switch?

Q: Hi, I’m missing the dividend on this stock, I guess it will not return soon? Could you rate it on a scale of one(worst) to ten.
I’m also selling for a capital loss , and possibly buy back. Would you sell now or wait till Nov. Dec. tax loss season? Would you even buy back as it seems to be a laggard compared to TOU.
Thanks

Q: I am looking at acquiring 5 stocks based on potential long term return (5 year minimum). From your growth portfolio looking at AT, DOL, DOO, ECN, GDI, MRS and OTEX. Three others I am looking at are EQB, SDE and VMD. In what order would you purchase them and would you purchase them now?

Q: I hold BBTV, XBC, STC, MBCN & THNK Stocks they are all down from the time I bought them. Unfortunately, they are all in registered accounts so I cant claim a loss. Each of them is about 1% of my portfolio. Which one do you think I should sell and in which order I should sell or do you still think they are still worth holding for few years.

Thanks for the great service

Q: I realize that markets can be somewhat unpredictable at best sometimes but I see some commentators who say that fall through to spring is a good period for some commodities per se. I try not to invest or trade based on these notions but rather on the merits of a company and 5I advice. However I noted once that 5I had a comment that August/September seemed to be a good period for technology stocks. Does this seem to be a general trend
Thank You for Your great service

Q: I owned Blackberry shares earlier in the year, but ended up selling in June after the stock had reached $20 per share. I had previously purchased around $10 per share earlier in the year. The share price as been in a downward fall since the meme spikes. I was considering opening another position if the stock slides below $10 again. Do you see that as a good entry point? Would you say that Blackberry still has longer term potential?

Q: This question is about trimming a position when overweight relative to the portfolio.
Previously, I monitored the weighting for a specific position depending on which of each of the 4 portfolios it was in -  Cdn Balanced, US Balanced, Cdn Income and Cdn Growth.
But then I signed up for Portfolio Analytics.
Taking WSP as an example, it is about 8% in the Cdn Balanced portfolio. But well under in the one, all inclusive portfolio, like less than 5%.
Going forward, do I continue to trim based on the weighting within each of the 4 separate portfolios or based on the one all inclusive portfolio, aka the Portfolio Analysis one???
Thanks for settling this quandary of mine........Tom

Q: I know 5i doesn’t cover stocks outside of North America so please feel free to disregard my question if you can’t provide an answer. I currently have no direct exposure to Asia. Could you please rank Baba, JD and SE in a locked in RSP, 10+ horizon. I have space for one and since I’m happy with current valuations with the ongoing uncertainty, I would be ready to choose one. And could you please also comment on what would happen to the investment if it ever was delisted in terms of the access to the funds. Thank you!
