Q: Hi 5i,
Need to create a new fixed income/bond position in my portfolio. Looking to allocate holdings (equally?) across the following ETF's: CBO, XBB, ZEF, CPD, and ZHY. Would you recommend this as a good long term strategy or would there be a better ETF combination you'd recommend.
BTW loved your May issue in ETF Fund Update (etffundupdate.ca) on balancing sector allocation.

Q: Down 50% on a small position in Clearwater.. Normally as a long term investor I stay the course. Wondering if this stock should be sold instead. Is there likely to be a better future for this company going forward in your view ? Or do the risks outweigh that possibility.
Q: What do you think about a short on this one in light of the Muddy Waters' report? Thank you in advance for your comments.

Q: Hi 5i
It seems that CGNX will take some time to recover (down 20%) and am wanting growth. Is it worth holding for 2 or 3 Q? Could you give me your opinion on replacing it with IQ or Box, or another suggestion. I have a small position in IQ which looks promising. Thanks for your help.

Q: just wondering what your thoughts are on why Vermillion seems to move in greater swings than either CNQ or SU, particularly given VET is less reliant on Western Canadian discount pricing...thanks.
Q: GW Pharma sounds like it will likely have it’s epidiolex approved by the FDA. In light of this would you think of a purchase at $145.00 US.
Q: I need to trim my energy positions by one, I currently hold PKI, RRX, and SPB. I like the dividends from PKI and SPB and am holding long term. Like most investors I like income with growth, which of the three should I sell?
Thanks for making my retirement less stressful, Lyle.

Q: Trimming the herd to pay off the mortgage. Any compelling reason not to sell the above names. I have a few others on the maybe trim list if you make a compelling case to keep any of the above. Balanced growth follower.
I am heavy financial ( thus ditching rbc and mfc), wjx is one of my dogs ( offsets some of my gain on financials) and rus- tpk -wpm have gone sideways so no gain-loss on them. Gets me out pretty cap gain neutral and cleans out a bit of dead weight not in your balanced portfolio

Q: Hi, I would like to increase my exposure to materials companies as I think they will over perform the market in the next 12 months. Could you please rank the following in each category as to your expectations for capital gains?
1. Silver: FR, USA, SSRM, PAAS, SIL
2. Gold: BTO, KL, GUY, WPM, WDO
3. Others: TV, MX, CMMC, ECS, LGO
Or any others in the small cap category that you'd put ahead?

Q: Hi folks. New Flyer is a position I took last November and as a result I am down significantly. That said, I have been reading your responses to questions asked in which you stated in part; "we would not view NFI as an outright sell at this time. " This statement could indicate that it maybe a sell and you are not sure yet? Also I am wondering if the course issuer bid NFI announced on 11 June maybe in response to or in anticipation of, a further decline in the stock price?
Thanks All

Q: 5i has had a bit of criticism recently regarding the income portfolio performance. Obviously 5i does not need me to “rebut” this. However it is worth pointing out that 2 other respected advisors (John Heinzl and Gordon Pape) have outlined their own concerns recently with the performance of their income portfolios and have made some adjustments.
I also have a couple of cynics sceptical of my “wisdom” in sticking with an “income” focus. I wish to educate them by sharing some long term data with them regarding share prices and dividend growth. Companies like Enbridge .... a signifcant casualty in my portfolio comes to mind. Where can I go to find historical data on stocks - ideally going back as far as 1990?
Thanks for your help. Good luck and keep up the great service you provide for your customers.
