Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: In one of your responses you stated "But, there are good signs, such as 20% of biotech companies in the US now trading below cash levels". If this is net cash (i.e. after debt), wouldn't these be great buying opportunities, assuming the companies are solid. They would eventually trade at their cash position (at minimum, I would have to believe). If my thesis is correct, can you name a few of these companies. I think this may be pretty much a sure thing?

Q: These two companies are incredibly innovative and have developed the vaccines that save us all. They are very profitable with Moderna selling at a PE of 5 and BioNtech at a PE of 3.2. Yet they continue to go down. They also have quite a few medicines in their pipelines. I have 65 shares of MRNA in my TFSA. Your thoughts?

Q: Can you please rank the following cancer related stocks based from best to worst based on your understanding of which are currently under appreciated based on their potential to cure or prevent cancer? To put it another way, do any of them have technology that could become significantly larger businesses than they are today in treating or detecting cancer?
Please add one name that I have not listed that may have higher potential.

Q: I think I may have timed out before submitting this question earlier.

I wanted to know your views on swapping DHR for ISRG in my health care allocation, which currently includes SYK and WELL. I know you like ISRG today, perhaps more than you did a couple of years ago when you had concerns about their business in China. Is China a significant part of their business? And your DHR concerns seem centred on their higher levels of debt which are being paid down.

I have done well with DHR but I am wondering if ISRG's growth profile is considered higher without taking on a significant increase in risk. Or would one of my other holdings be a better swap? Or is "do nothing" the best course?

Appreciate your insight.

Q: At the time of writing, PRN is up by 10% today. Deeply under water, earnings next week. What to expect? Is it a keeper for the next year or should I sell for tax loss and take my money elsewhere? If a sell, would you wait for earnings? The market is so short term sighted that with COVID PRN might suffer for an extend period of time.

Q: Good morning 5i,
I have a loss in Gild and have been waiting for a time to claim it and buy a replacement. It seems to me that the recent drop in Abbivie might provide that opportunity, unless there is something I don't see. Would you think that this would be the best opportunity in this field at the moment?
thanks as always for your great work

Q: Would appreciate your views on this morning's blockbuster announcement. The SP has been very lethargic over the past year but this could finally move the yardsticks.

CINCINNATI, April 26, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Quipt Home Medical Corp. (“Quipt” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ:QIPT; TSXV:QIPT), a U.S. based leader in the home medical equipment industry, focused on end-to-end respiratory care, is very pleased to announce the execution of a national insurance contract with a top five health insurer in the United States1.

Management Commentary

“The execution of this national insurance contract with the largest commercial payer in the United States is a major milestone for Quipt and serves as a further accelerant to our ambitious long term growth plans. The national contract is expected to be meaningful as we continue to expand into new states, broadening our operating footprint over a much wider geography. When we make an acquisition, we will be able to immediately leverage the national contract, which is extremely powerful in terms of capturing as many eligible patients as possible,” said Greg Crawford, Chairman and CEO of Quipt. “Moreover, we feel there's still a lot of opportunity for us to go after more national contracts, which would provide the opportunity to add additional payers, and we will continue to work with other large commercial payers to help them better understand our strong patient centric model and the benefits to patients and payors alike. The new national insurance contract, extremely favorable demographics, and our robust operating platform, put us in an industry leading position to provide high touch at home clinical respiratory services throughout the country.”

Q: Hello 5i Team,

With the continued decline of stocks related to the semi-conductor industry (e.g. materials, fabrication, testing), is now a good time to buy for a 3+ year hold? Or should I wait for prices to settle?

Either way, could you please recommend 3 stocks for me to consider (not including NVDA, which I already own) and include a brief comment explaining each choice.

Thanks!
