Q: My emerging markets exposure is currently 100% weighted in India via Farifax India HLDGS. I am looking at adding either Russia (RSX) or South Africa (FAH-U) to the mix. Which country do you feel has the better growth potential or is there a third country you prefer at this time? Is this targeted country focus better than an emerging markets ETF like ZEM?

Q: 10,000 Americans a day will reach the age of 65 and this will continue for the next 19 years. That's 3,500,000 a year times 19 years. More walkers, hips, knees, wheelchairs, nursing homes, retirement homes, pain pills, drugs. More of what Savaria ( SIS ) produces. Great for Savaria !
What other Canadian & U.S. Companies will benefit from this great explosion of aging of America . Is Canada in a similar situation. Baby Boombers, Bob

Q: Hi Peter and the team.
My question is in regards to Kalytera Therapeutics. My stocks of Santa Maria Petroleum were converted to Kalytera when the company decided to get out of the oil business and refocus in the cannabinoid space. Is it a keeper, buy more or sell ? What are your thoughts on this company.
Thank you Marc

Q: You were not enthused with this issue when it did an IPO on November 1,2016. Have you changed you view? If not what would you recommend as a good place to park cash.
The cash balance usually $100K would fluctuate; but would never go to Zero.
Thanks Team

Q: I am considering selling DH now rather than wait for closing of the sale. I would like to replace it with 1 of the 3 mentioned. Which of these 3 would you suggest or do you have another good alternative. I am thinking that my replacement would likely make up for the amount lost by not waiting for the closing of the DH sale. It does not have to be a Dividend payer.
Thanks 5i for the great information and advise that you give. It has certainly been very helpful and profitable for me.

Q: Hi 5i team,
I'm looking to add a 5-10% Gold position to my portfolio and would appreciate your views on this line of thinking.
Do you consider Gold as a volatility hedge a worth while endeavour? And if so, what 2 or 3 companies would you recommend for a Balanced portfolio approach?
Thanks again for your excellent service!

Q: What is your opinion about Verizon? I understand Telcos are not necessarily good in a rising interest environment. I hope the news is already factored in the share price. I am looking to buy it for the dividend and about 4 to 5 percent capital appreciation. Thanks
Q: This is in response to your answer to Stan(1) in regards to dividend income and DRIP plans.
I agree that taxable Canadian dividend income does not reduce the A.C.B. of the stock shares held, but then neither does the market value of the shares received under a DRIP. In fact the value of the shares at the time of the dividend payment is added to the A.C.B of your share holdings at the same time that you are credited with the additional shares. For reduce of A.C.B., are you not referring to "Return of Capital" which would be noted on the Corporate website under dividends/distributions and can be found in the appropriate box on your T5/T3 supplementary slips received each year.

Q: I currently have 8% of my portfolio in VFV and VUN to achieve direct US exposure. Would you agree that I should aim at 30% US equities? Is VFV and VUN a good way to achieve this goal?
Q: Just a clarifying question on the ex-dividend date. I understand as the seller I am entitled to the dividend if I sell on the ex-dividend date. Can you clarify what the sell date is - the day I enter the trade or the day the trade settles. So if stocks settle in 2 days do I need to sell 2 days prior to the ex-dividend date to ensure I still get the dividend.

Q: Greetings 5i,
I was reading an article on MorningStar regarding TDs recently launched ETF based "Portfolio" Mutual funds all with "low MERs" of 0.08%. I was interested in your thoughts on these funds, positives and negatives, confirmation of MERs, as well as where I would be able to find a list of each funds holding as information seems a little sparse.

Q: Hi,
When holding various ETF's in your portfolio, should you account for the sector weighting within the ETF towards your sector allocation of your total portfolio? For example, VDY, sector weighting is tilted mostly 62% financials and 21% energy. So lets say VDY is 10% of your portfolio, would you add 6.2% of this towards financials, 2.1% energy, etc..?? I see that RY, TD, and BNS make up the top three holdings, so would you still even consider buying individual financial stocks if this allocation made up your full financial sector weight in your portfolio?
I understand that for specific sector ETF's, like ZUH that focus on healthcare or ZBK that focus on financials, you can count 100% towards that sector allocation in your portfolio. I'm just wondering if I should be doing this with those ETF's that hold more unequal sector weights within the ETF and how to account for those so I'm not too overweight in a specific sector in my portfolio. And how about those ETF's like VCN, where you have four sectors that make up 80% of the weight. Am I overthinking this?
Thanks!

Q: hello 5i:
2 questions.
I am interested in the fund above, and the question asked by Robert yesterday. One thing I can't quite understand: how is the fund generating a (greater than) 6% return. How is the fund able to do this with present interest rates? Through leverage?
Could you give me your opinion on the CEF WEC (Western Asset Premier Bond Fund), and would you consider this a viable holding in a TFSA?
thanks
Paul

Q: In a fairly diversified portfolio, I only have 2.5% in the telecom sector. I can either bring BCE up to a full position or buy a half position in Telus. I feel comfortable doing either. What would you recommend?
