Q: Hello 5i Team,
Utilities and pipeline companies are counted as 'blue chips' in many retirees' portfolio due to 'safe' dividends and some growth opportunities.
With the current thesis of the decline of fossil fuel in the context of low carbon future, what are your thoughts on these companies? Would there be a change of guards with these industries being replaced by renewable energy and clean tech energy in the next decade?
I have the following names which I am concerned about where they will stand few years from now? Which are the weaker ones that I should sell?
PPL, KEY, AQN, TRP, FTS, ENB.
Are there Cdn or US companies that you can suggest as future 'blue chip' in the renewable energy and clean tech energy industries? I already owned BEP.UN. Thanks.

Q: What is your opinion of the product that Flyht Aerospace has and its potential in today's market. I really like the theory of the product but as the price lingers I'm thinking there must be some problem or issue that is stopping companies from purchasing their solution for all aircraft. Is it still a leading edge solution in the market place and its cost per aircraft is what is holding sales back? Management? Or does it simply need more time. Would appreciate your input here

Q: I think I'm ready to throw in the towel on PHM and SCR, being down 54% and 42.5%, respectively. I've been doing the Lazarus Watch on them, but I'm ready to concede these will not be coming back from the dead any time soon.

In that vein, I was thinking of replacing them with beaten up oil/energy stocks, that are more likely to recover than either of these. Some thoughts are: Cequence, Rock Energy, Pine Cliff and Cathedral. What are your thoughts on your favourite one of these, assuming I'm in a fugue state and believe in oil recovery? : )

Alternatively, could you recommend a stock, in any sector, with some good trading potential, with a stock price of under $1?

I know this goes against 5 I methods, and for what it's worth, this is not my usual M.O. I normally follow solid 5 I principles, and have made some very nice returns. (thanks for that!). Rather, this is my Mad Money Recovery Mode -- and wanted to exchange, roughly, share count and dollar value. (I think we all have a tiny "gambling gene" in all of us, otherwise we would never go near the Market, with our hard earned cash.)

If you think PHM or SCR are worth holding onto, on the other hand, I would value your opinion. (I do tend to hold onto to things for the longer term if there is hope of probable recovery.)

Q: Hi there,

I am seeing the IPL is experiencing shutdowns due to the fires. Might the short term impact here be reason to exit a position and rebuy at a lower price or should the impact to the stock price not be that great?
Would it make sense to switch to PPL or perhaps a producer such as CPG or CJ that is differently affected?

Q: I am interested in building a position in Facebook (~$12000) for a long (5 yrs plus) and would like to hear your ideas on the best strategy to do so. It is nice when a stock like this pulls back to get in at a cheaper price. Not sure this will happen any time soon with FB. How do you buy a stock like this? Do you recommend averaging in (in 2 or 3 increments), waiting for a pullback, or just buying at the current share-price?

Q: Peter and Team:

I am currently down about 30% on both of these in a diversified portfolio. I was thinking of selling one and using funds to top up the remainder. (Spring Cleaning). Could you please suggest which has more upside potential vs downside risk. Or should I just wait on both as I have a very long timeframe.

Q: Hi Peter and Team,
What is your view on Russel Metal's first qtr result.
Would you think the situation of the steel sector is improving? What about their cash flows, still solid to support the dividend pay out?
Is it time to gradually build up a small position of this stock?
