Q: Harvest recently launched 4 individual share etf’s which uses covered call and leverage.

The etf’s have only been out a few weeks but the leveraged versions seem to keep up with the individual stocks in terms of price appreciation.


How would you expect these etf’s to perform over the long term compared to the individual stock that it holds?

Would this be a way to get yield and price appreciation? Would you hold these etf’s instead of the underlying stock?

Q: So, with all the uncertainty of just a few weeks to the US election and all the Canadian election uncertainty, why not sell, sit with cash and wait for.a couple of months to see what happens. The dive that the stock market took a few weeks ago is a reminder of how fast things can change. Before the dive a few weeks ago I was up about 35 percent for the year and was kicking myself for not selling and putting my feet up for a while. Now my stocks have recovered, I am in almost the same situation again and wondering if I may make the same mistake twice.

Q: TC Energy has set the date for the South Bow spin off (I believe Oct/24 - not sure if it was the beginning or end of month) I read that the spin off will not be subject to capital gains until it's sold, that much seems straight forward.

Can you please help me understand how the Average Cost Base will be established, will it be the price of the South Bow Shares at the outset of trading on day one?? I'm assuming the Cost Base for the remaining TC Energy shares stays the same, even tho the share price will be reduced to reflect the pricing of South Bow.

Q: I asked something about BCAT a little while ago and I now have another question. It appears that the monthly distributions are issued as a return of capital; can you pls confirm if that is the case. And secondly, is a return of capital by a US entity still a return of capital for Canadian tax purposes, or does CRA treat it as interest? I know tax is not your forte, but any info you can provide would be great. Thanks for your excellent service.

Q: These are some of the bond ETFs you have previously suggested. You have recently noted that, while interest rates are dropping and long-term bonds should ultimately provide the most torque in this scenario, shorter-duration bonds should not be forgotten. Does this suggest that a 50/50 split between longer and shorter duration is best, or would you suggest some kind of uneven split for a retired-income investor looking for stability and reasonable growth? As a general strategy, would you also include some portion be allotted to convertible bonds?

Q: Realty preferred shares are being redeemed so I have some funds to buy more safe income securities. I'm thinking a US GIC paying 4.35% (fully secured) or SGOV 5.22% secure with some fluctuation or FBND 4.77% not including fees. Where do you think the value lies.
