Q: I've recently sold partial positions of NA companies and am interested in shifting some funds to the EU, specifically the industrial/defense sector. Would you please comment on the above symbols and any other suggestions. And please...everyone...buy Canadian.
Q: Peter; Yesterday you mentioned a European ETF( VE) . Can you tell me how much of it is invested in Germany -and is there a German ETF that covers their main big cap companies?
Thanks,
Rod
Q: Hi, I enquired earlier about the double whammy of withholding taxes on some Chinese etf like FXI. Are there any CHINA broad etfs that don't have to pay this double tax?
If not, are there any other options? Are there CDN etfs that dont pay the double tax?
Q: I was overthinking diversification all night long and got to wondering about purchasing foreign stocks. There are 4 solid Australian stocks that are their "aristocrats".
It seems strange that US/CDN markets are interchangeable yet I can't find how to even buy something listed on the .ASX ( not so simple for Wealthsimple)
Given diversification is so important, do you purchase foreign stocks directly? How so?
I understand that tax treaties and commissions may make the issue pointless. But money is money. Even if it's EUROS or Aussie dollars. Curious about your experiences.
Q: Would you recommend VE as a way to diversify a mostly Canadian portfolio into Europe? Are there significant differences among Europe large cap ETFs and, if so, what would you recommend as an alternative or complement? Is now a good time to make this move?
Q: With all of the chaos going on in the US, what are your thoughts on iShares EWZ going forward? If this is a possible position, what percentage of a portfolio would you be okay with?
Thanks, Lesley
Q: I am presently considering investing outside of America….I want to stay away from trouble areas like Europe, UK, China, even Australia……I am warming up to Japan, any thoughts??? Thank you!
Q: Good afternoon. I have $20K in an unregistered US account to invest in an ETF that would track either European or
Orient dividend growers. What would you recommend,? I could split it to accommodate both jurisdictions if you think it's prudent. Thanks David
Q: Hello, I have long been a fan of Peter Hodson's team. Introduced thru Ellen Roseman's investment club.
I own JRVMF in my TFSA. Originally bought about $2,000 CDN worth of shares several years ago. I listened to my geologist neighbour.
Just received a package on the company's U.S. Chapter 11 proceedings (received by regular mail February 21, 2025, must respond by 5 p.m. CT February 25, 2025).
Package includes 1) notice of "Joint Prepackaged Chapter 11 Plan of Reorganization" 2) "Notice of Non-Voting Status" and 3) a form for those who "elect to opt out of the third-party release" which must be returned tomorrow, Feb 25, 2025.
I gather I am not entitled to vote on the Prepackaged Plan. I assume this is a standard thing. Any advice on how to respond would be appreciated.
