Q: Whats you outlook on gold in general. Held this for years through some big ups and downs and thinking of getting out with the recent Brexit price bump. Wondering however with seasonality supposedly turning positive over the next few months whether to hang on a little longer.

Hello Peter:
Today you made this distinction between "Safe" and "Secure" dividends in your answer to Grant asking about Superior Plus : "We would consider the dividend 'secure'. 'Safe' is a different category completely".
1. I am looking to concentrate on companies whose dividends you consider to be in the "safe" category, and which yield over 3.5% as these should/must be at least the main core of any pensioner's holdings for reliable income. This can be confusing to sort out since I presume that you will not consider all banks, utilities, telcos, REITS, Pipelines, etc. qualify as "safe".
2. So if you could sort out a short list of the few that qualify for the "Safe Dividend" category it would be most appreciated. I do understand that disasters do occasionally happen, and any company no matter how safe can get into trouble.
2. This brings up the problem of portfolio concentration caused by owning only a few names or sectors. Is it better or "ok" to just own a portfolio of only "Safe" dividend stocks, or are we advised to dilute the quality of our portfolios and own some less safe dividend stocks to supposedly "diversify" risk? This harks back to the people whose portfolio consists of only the big five Canadian Banks and who have done brilliantly for the past 50 years!
Your considered opinion on this issue will be most appreciated........ Paul K.

Q: Hi folks:
I like keeping my gold investing in Canada. Integra's recent drilling results look good. Insiders seem to be buying stock. Do you have any info on Integra?

Q: I'm confused by Tucows. When the markets were going down, this one was going up. Today, in an up-market, it's down. Any thoughts on why it trades opposite to the markets?
Q: Any US equities ticking all the 5i boxes? Your sage advice always greatly appreciated!
Q: You have mentioned Magna a couple of times recently. Would it make sense to buy a call for (maybe) Jan. 2018 @ $48 for $5.00? Any guess for a target 1 - 2 years out?
Q: I wish to add a utility stock to my holdings. Do you have a preference between Boralex and Algonquin? Thanks
Q: Prior to Brexit there was considerable discussion about the need to address Cdn house price overvaluation, likely through mortgage terms. I note that both MKP - MCAP and Timbercreek have worthwhile dividends, provided their pricing remains stable or positive. I note that you like MCAP but the question is what do their future prospects depend on?
Thanks
Thanks
Q: Hi, considering buying Loblaw. Is now a good time with the rather steep p/e of 42? Are their any better Canadian consumer staples other than couche tard? Thanks in advance
Q: I have noticed with low trading companies, quite often a bid or ask of one lot hiding behind it a larger numbers of bids and asks. Often enough I put my bid or ask 1 cent lower or higher than the competing bid or ask and that particular one lot bid or ask moves ahead of me. Are these traders trying to hide the larger number from regular investors that don't have access to second level quotes? What would be the purpose of their actions.
Thanks
Thanks
Q: What will be the position of Alcoa options expiring in Jan 17 when the company splits.
Thanks
Thanks
Q: Greetings to all at 5i. I hope everyone, your family and friends are well. Nuvo recently spun out Crescita Therapeutics. I have done very well in the past when companies have split. I am considering taking my profits now, however, before I do so I would appreciate your analysis. Thank you and my best wishes to all.
Q: MRU hit a new 52 week high early in today's session...and then proceeded to drop a large amount. seems to be normal volume. Are you aware of anything that may have caused this? What are your general feelings about MRU? Thank you as always.
Q: I am confused about Intertain, which I like. It took a hit a while back because of the controversy surrounding gaming stocks, but earnings are doing quite well, growth is on track, and evaluation seems (to me) low, especially with good growth prospects. I realize that BREXIT calls into question a take-over of parts or all of the company, but I thought if a take-over happened it would be around $20. Why are we sitting at $10? Do you think the metrics merit such a (low) stock price?
