Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Could you please give me your top 4 industrial companies. I own WSP, STN and BDI in Canada. HON and TRN in US. I'm a little torn on weather to add to BDI and/or TRN. But your top 4 may be a good place to start in making my decision. Thanks for your help.

Q: SPB just announced the suspension of its DRIP plan. What is rationale for any company, like SPB here, to do so?

I always thought a DRIP plan is a good way for a company to conserve/manage its cash flow while the additional share dilution is really at the expense of its existing shareholder base. Hence it is to a company's advantage to have a DRIP.

What is your view on the pros and cons of a DRIP? Please enlighten us. Thanks.

Q: Hey 5i team, this is my first question here. I have recently finished school, and have opened a TFSA. I am looking to start a portfolio, and am willing to hold investments for up to five years. I was looking into the energy sector, and like CPG, and CVE (for growth potential), and VET (for their dividend). Would you recommend one over the other (or anything else), or would you recommend averaging between the three?
Thanks,
Mark

Q: Would Mr Baazov be allowed to put in a bid and take the company private while having been charged? Do you think bigger parties are looking at buying Amaya? If true it is unbelievable what I am reading today--ie with all his money why risk getting charged and accepting puny kickbacks . Does not make sense. Innocent until proven guilty!!!

Q: Hi, probably a delicate subject but what has happened with the growth portfolio? There are some big wins, but also some big losses. Obviously, not every pick can be golden but do you not have some safeguards on your positions such as technical sell points etc?
The income portfolio is great, but it is hard to have confidence in the growth portfolio at this time to be frank.
