Q: Hi 5i,
In today's environment; October 17, 2023.
If one wanted to purchase a Canadian Passive Fixed Income ETF to hold in a TFSA for 1 to 3 years and then potentially sell. Can you suggest some ETF's that might give out sized Total Return. My goal is Total Return and not necessarily High Yield.

Q: Hi 5i,
Are ETF and Fund companies required to detail "Performance Fees" in the "Fund Facts" document? If not, where must it be disclosed?

Hamilton Canadian Financials YIELD MAXIMIZER TM ETF (HMAX)

Hamilton Utilities YIELD MAXIMIZER TM ETF (UMAX)
Q: From what I understand from 5i - HCAL should move up much faster than HMAX and ZWU should move up faster than UMAX when the market begins its recovery. Is this a correct analogy? Thx James
Q: What is the potential regulatory risk related to HISAs? Is it restricted to HISA ETFs?
I have funds parked in a BMO investorline HISA for immediate deployment when needed:
https://www.bmoinvestorline.com/selfDirected/pdfs/BMT_HISA_Terms_CAD_EN.pdf
Can you explain what the regulatory risk and if it is applicable to my current holding?
Is there a better place to park funds?

Q: Dear 5i
When stocks that payout dividends/interest monthly i assume the share price of the stock temporarily goes down after the distribution is payed . If that is correct would it be wise to buy into that stock at that point when the stock is lower after the distribution ?
Also i can't decide whether to top up my enbridge position or start a new position in pembina . Do you have a preference ? Is it a good time to take on an energy position in addition to CNQ which i currently have ?
Thanks again and deduct as necessary .

Q: Do you think there is any truth to the Culper Research report that XPEL's long-time supplier Entrotech has formed a joint venture with PPG, which has integrated protection technology directly into OEM paint?
Q: What do you think of Telus. Thx
Q: My TFSA is growth-oriented, relatively diversified (16 stocks, mostly below 5%). But CSU has grown to be close to 20% of the total. How do I balance (1) diversification with (2) letting winners run, taking account of (3) the exceptional character of CSU as a long-term winner.

Q: David Burrows was on BNN this mrning making his case for the market going forward. Very convincing..
Concentrating on dividend growers. What do you think and which stocks in your universe would you recommend?

Q: For some time 5i (and others) have noted that small cap valuations are low on a historic basis, and I also believe that you have commented that small caps often lead in a market turnaround? I really like a good "reversion to the mean" play, but what are the conditions for that to happen? I have to think inflation and higher interest rates are disproportionate headwinds for smaller companies vs large caps. What should one look for before buying a small cap ETF, or just forget the timing and figure you'll be happy in a few years one way or another? Thanks for your thoughts.
Q: Watch this stock continually fall. I am wondering if it is time to sell or move the money into BN for some exposure into the renewable space.
Thanks Steve

Q: What would be your top picks for stable Canadian dividend stocks that are trading at historically low valuations?
Thanks so much!

Q: The contract changes in Trinidad and Tobago seem to be a loss of sales. How much does the idling of the Atlas facility hurt the revenues of MX? The stock sold off on this news but I note some insider buying also. What is your current assessment of this as an investment?
Q: A little while ago a member asked about gold and these 3 companies were mentioned by you as potential to purchase. Comparing the 3, it seems that BTO is quite a bit more attractive....a good yield at 5 % (AGI is less than 1% and KRR is nil); BTO has about 1/2 the P / E and somewhat better P / B. Can you elaborate why the other 2 could be considered over BTO . Thanks

Q: I spent some time reading the Offer to Exchange as I was thinking of doing this even before the offer came out. I am trying to reduce my taxable income because of the clawback of OAS and the RoC distributions works for that. However, I noticed that this will be a taxable event, ie it will generate a capital gain or loss on the BN shares that are exchanged. For long time holders with a capital gain it may not be worth doing. I didn't see any mention of the tax consequences in previous questions.
Q: In the chart "Portfolio Total Return with Benchmark as Base (%) 5-Yr" in your monthly portfolio reports, why does it change for a given date from month to month? For example, at 2022-1-1 in the Mar 31, 2023 Growth report it is about 50%. But in the Sep 30, 2023 Growth report at 2022-1-1 it drops well below 50%. Is this not the cumulative excess return over the benchmark for the 5 year period ending 2022-1-1 in both charts and therefore it shouldn't change? Thank you.
