Q: What is your updated view on Russel Metals after their latest earnings report and large acquisition (Samuel $225M) in December. Net cash position and commentary on some recent and future CapEx focused on value added moderinazation projects to expand margins. It seems like something has changed with the company finally breaking out from the 30-35 range it has been in for 15 years.

"It's definitely been a very robust market compared to anything I've seen and really the sustainability of that over 3 years...So the demand has been very good and also price of steel has been very good... And so, yes, it's been a really nice ride for the last 3 years and we don't see anything really pulling back on that next or I guess the next 2 or 3 years as far as we can see out, we just don't see anything to change that right now."

Q: Hi 5i,

There's been a lot of buzz lately about OpenAI/ChatGPT developing a new search engine that will compete with Googles. Also this will be partly functional inside Bing. Given the Google relies on highly Ad revenue, expecting users to scroll through searches, while this new engine would potentially by-pass this Ad revenue clicking, do you see this a game changing to Google?

Q: Can you comment on Palantir's stock-based compensation levels. This seems to be growing at about 15% annually, and it was over a billion dollars last year, for a company whose revenue is just over $2 billion annually. Is this too high and will this impact earnings meaningfully over the next 5 years? Thanks.

Q: In a recent question concerning VFV held in a RRSP, you replied VFV is subject to Level 1 holding tax because it owns units in a US ETF. With regards to ZSP in a RRSP there is no Level 1 tax because ZSP holds individual US stocks & no US ETFs. Is this correct. Thanks … Cal

Where do you find out in advance the date when a company is going x-dividend?
Reading your questions all the time I found out the earnings date for NVDA is Feb. 21.

Q: How likely is it that NVDA will announced a stock split after releasing Q1 earnings next week?

Q: A further update on converting PDYPF "shares" to FLUT shares. Two weeks ago I asked BMO IL to journal my PDYPF shares to FLUT so I can sell them on the NYSE when I want. My son did the same at Questrade. His shares were converted in one day. I'm still waiting. I called today and essentially I was told that their computer set up cannot do this. Further more, PDYPF shares were CDIs, that is they are held by the CREST depository in the UK. OK that sent me back to re-read the notice 5i posted and section II #5 applies to CDIs which have been now converted to DIs (Depository Interests) which is essentially no change but Computershare holds them and sells them through CREST. Can you convert DIs to FLUT? The notice says YES but there is a charge by CREST. I guess this is the 1% "stamp tax" I was told about. I am now looking to transfer my shares to Questrade where it will be more visible and open. My son did not pay any "stamp tax" but maybe he will when he goes to sell the shares. Q: I read about "paying attention to valuation" but I don't understand how to arrive at a good "valuation" of a company.

Could you explain, in simple terms, and give an example of what would be a good [and a bad] valuation of an existing company's stock?

Could you use CAE or TIXT as an example of a good or bad valuation?
