Q: My holdings in the banks are pretty well equal. Circumstances have arisen which require me to decide whether I should shift this balance against the most overvalued to the most undervalued, if there is a worthwile difference among them for a long term holder. Would you be inclined to rank them and indicate whether your order represents significant differences?
Q: Re Point North
In mid-May, I asked your views of this play for control. Your view was somewhat negative. Based on circulars since then, do you have a stronger view, one way or another?
My intuitive view is strongly negative. I may want to express my view to the institutional investors. Is there any point to do so and, if so, is there a way of getting their attention?
Q: My observation is that you don't generally view companies that grow quickly by acquisition as 'risky', whereas you often refer to debt and small capitalization as risk factors. Constellation Software, Alimentation, Parkland, Enghouse and of course Valeant come to mind as consolidators. I would appreciate your comments on the risks of growth-by-acquisition, and, what are the high-growth companies you recommend that rely on acquisitions for growth?
Thanks
I own some CYB ($48). It has same holdings as Edgepoint Global, along with 15.8% stake in Edgepoint itself. CYB website shows NAV at 41.13 but it is trading at $48. I am tempted to sell and buy back when this gap narrows. Also own good chunk of Edgepoint Global. Would appreciate your thoughts.
Back in 2004 and 2005, I purchased 2 labour sponsored funds, to get the tax credit associated with them. One has gone under and the other is about half the value.
What is the minimum time I have to keep on holding to the labour sponsored fund, without being penalized for the tac credit?
If initiating a new position in shopify (I realise im a little late to the game), would a full position be ok, or would it be wiser to start with a half?
Kind regards,
I don't have a position in either one of these companies but I would like to. Both stocks keep going up and are expensive. Is it to late to start a position in one of these packaging companies, if so which would you prefer to pack away for the long term.
With plans to open 40 new locations over the next year I don't believe the growth story is over, just paused. It seems to me that SSSG as a measure of growth is somewhat flawed for this type of business as locations have to be open for 2 years, or as a minimum 5 quarters, to be meaningful, correct? And they treat their franchisees a whole lot better than Tim's where a rebellion is happening.
It may be out of the 5i portfolio but it's still in mine where it's been since 2013. I note the distribution has been upped several times to the point it yields 6% on my original investment so I'd be more inclined to add to the position on its recent weakness.
Q: Hi team, I've held CVE from the split of ECA I have 100 shares my cost is 29.17 would you buy more here to lower my cost and hope for a recovery or sell it and forget that I ever had it. Thanks, Nick
i would like to establish a position with this company, am I to late to jump on the train with this one. From what I have read you guys are firm believers in buying stocks that are going up, and this is certainly the case with this one. Could I get your well respected opinion. Looking to hold this for the long haul.
Q: Following your balanced portfolio for 4 months and done well. Did buy shop as the only stock out of portfolio. It has done very well and now makes up 9%. Holding for the long term, but wondering if I should continue to ride the wave or sell 2% and buy another tech stock. Hard to sell when it keeps climbing. If so what tech stock. Right now I do not have syz. T as always you guys are the best.
Q: Can I get your opinion on CPX? We recently took a position in it for the good dividend but it has gone down steadily for the last few days. Hold for the dividend, sell? - Thanks, Ted
Q: Engh has moved nicely in the past couple of weeks. Is there some explanation for this movement and your projections for this stock would be appreciated
John
Q: I currently hold all stocks in the Balanced Portfolio. I have a 3% position in CLS, ATD KXS MX NFI SJ SYZ and WCP. ALL THE REST ARE AT A FULL POSITION.
I HAVE TRIMMED DOWN MY HOLDINGS AND NOW IN A POSITION TO MOVE TO A FULL POSITION ON ALL THESE STOCKS. OF THE NAMES MENTIONED WHICH ONES ARE PRIORITY TO TOP UP?
THANKS IN ADVANCE, YOUR SITE IS IMMENSELY HELPFUL.
Q: I have room for one more growth stock in my portfolio. Which of the above two do you favour and your reasons. Thank you for your excellent service. Brian
If I already own almost the entire BE portfolio plus ZCL, SHOP, GSY (substituted for SLF from BE) and XTC (substituted for MG from BE) - what would be the next best idea/highest conviction name with a growth tilt that would be worth taking a look at that you believe will do well?
Q: Hi 5 I research. I would like you to name your favorite US stock
that shows decent growth for the next short teem.
Thanks so much for your invaluable information on the Canadian side. Maurice
