Q: Hello,

I am a new member and bit lost. I did not find any info on how to invest in the model portfolio in terms of timing ie when to invest, how much to allocate to each portfolio, also I did not find any blue chip dividend paying stocks in the portfolios, no etf for emerging markets, international equities or US equities. Instead of just opening up all the reports, model portfolios, Q&A to a novice member it would be nice to provide a guide in terms of how to invest new money considering the above points I have listed. Q: Which of the Brookfield spinoffs (Infrastructure, Renewable Energy, or Property) would you feel would provide the best growth over the very long term, buy-and-forget-it portfolio (10+ years)? Would property be the least attractive because of where we are in the interest rate cycle and fears of some kind of property bubble in major canadian cities? Thanks.

Q: Air Lease had reported excellent Third Quarter results. There sales and earnings were up twenty percentage. Are there other problems and factors holding this stock's price from going up?

Q: I am looking to buy fixed income for my RRSP account. To enhance my fixed income return I have been buying convertible debentures. I am not too concerned that I will never use the convertibility feature as I buy these bonds strictly for yield. About 18 months ago I bought the ATP.DB.B convertible debentures maturing June 30, 2017 at a price in the low eighties. Today it is trading at 94.00. I am now considering buying ATP.DB.D maturing March 31, 2019. It is now trading in the low eighties. Do you feel the extra yield on ATP.DB.D is worth the extra risk relative to ATP.DB.B? Keep in mind I am not concerned about convertibility features and I am only looking for yield. I am willing to hold both of these debentures to maturity.

Q: It seems the value being given to Exact Earth in the proposed spin-out is roughly $125 million. Does this value seem reasonable given current market sentiment towards small cap growth stocks? CDV at $6 seems to implie a much lower valuation for Exact Earth. Would you expect the price to rise as we approach closing in first quarter 2016?

Q: I noticed under the 5IR other links, there is a link to "Sector allocation tools". The sectors include Financial Services and also Financial....while there is another Real Estate. This caught my attention because these three categories are often grouped together under Finance. I like this three grouping approach.
What would be classified as Financial Services....banks, insurance. brokers and the like? What stocks would be included under Financial?
And the last question, for a balanced portfolio, what weights would you suggest for these three sectors?

Q: I have taken the overall diversified portfolio and allocated each stock into one of three portfolios - income, balanced and growth....with the weightings being about 20%, 65% and 15%, respectively.
When it comes to rebalancing, do I consider the percentage for a specific stock relative to the overall portfolio or to the specific portfolio?.......Tom

Q: Trying to figure out what's up with Chorus. So many positives:

- low beta
- solid ROE of around 20%
- low payout ratio around 34%
- forward PE of 7
- high yield yet appears to be very supportable
- security with the Air Canada contract renewed out to 2020

And yet the stock price is off .60 in the last three months. Am I missing a negative? I know the Q3 results are this coming Friday.

Q: They just issued their 3rd q results. I am not very good at determining if this is still undervalued. The results did not blow me away but they did increase the dividend by 10%. They are not in a growth industry however I thought Davis +Henderson was not either yet that stock has done well,long term. Your views of evaluation of SXP would be appreciated.

Q: No questions on this one since Feb 2014. I note your concerns expressed at that time. While still not much in the way of financial results, I cannot help but wonder why Clive Beddoe would assume the role of chairman of the board (April 2015). I also note Wilmot Mathews, also on the board of WestJet, is a board member. You wouldn't think that these guys would get involved with a 25m market cap company unless they saw something in it. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
