Q: "joint venture between GIC and Dream Industrial Real Estate Investment Trust will acquire all of the assets and assume all of the liabilities of Summit and the unitholders of the REIT (the "Unitholders") will receive $23.50 for each outstanding unit of the REIT (each, a "Unit") they own in cash by way of a special distribution and a redemption of Units, subject to applicable withholdings."

If I sell SMU.UN now I will have a very significant capital gain in 2023,what happens if I keep it until the special distribution ?I suppose it will also be a capital gain?any other choice here ?

Q: Hello 5i team,
I currently have XRE for real estate coverage in my TFSA for income. I was thinking of switching over to ZRE since it gives a slightly better payout.

I was wondering if there is any advantage for either of these ETFs? Aside from stock purchase limitations (XRE is capped, ZRE is equal weight), does one hold a better real estate portfolio overall?

Thanks,
Andrew

Q: Hello,

In light of the recent takeovers of WPT Industrial by Blackstone and Summit Industrial by Dream Industrial /GIC, what are your thoughts on the possibility of Chartwell being acquired? A BNN guest mentioned that Blackstone recently opened a Canadian office and has apparently hired an analyst with experience in retirement residence REITS. Please rate the probability of a takeover on 1-10 basis whereby 10 is very likely. Also, how safe is the dividend? Thanks for the great service.

Regards,
Anthony

Q: Down 25% plus on these two subsidiaries so considering a tax loss sale. Would BN be a suitable proxy and stay onside with CRA rules? Other ideas?

Q: SL GREEN, despite its recent dividend cut, seems a decent choice. Would you suggest buying REITs at this time and, if so, which ones? I am a retiree seeking inflation-resistant income.

Q: I have held these 2 stocks for a long while, but I am getting the impression that it is really hard to make a living in the senior-residential-retirement services. I am thinking on : a) sell one and reinvest in the proceeds in the other , b) sell both and buy instead a dividend payment large cap. (i.e. BNS, ENB) . If a) which one would you recommend to sell , if b) Does this move make sense ? thanks . note : I have plenty of other REITs in my portfolio.

Q: Can you dumb down the non-cash distribution capreit announced tonight?

For me specifically, I hold it within a TFSA - what can I expect? Don't hold enough shares to even accumulate what would amount to one share, thought I might have understood that completely wrong as I guess no one is actually gaining shares?

Thanks in advance

Q: I have a non-registered account that mainly consists of Canadian dividend-paying blue chip stocks. I'm retired. I'm looking at including XRE for diversification. I am fairly flexible on whether or not to put it into this particular account or an RRSP. From a tax point of view, would you have any recommendation ?

Q: I am intending to take a small position in one of these 2 companies. Security of capital and long term growth are the mainstays of my investing objectives. Current distributions or dividends are of no particular importance, except to the extent they contribute to the objectives. Which company would you choose, and why? Thank you for your excellent service.

Q: Is it a good time to start buying REITS or should I wait until 1/2 way through next year when we know more about this recession that everyone is predicting?

Can you recommend 1 or 2 CDN and 1 or 2 US for a long term hold?
