Q: Hi
I have held Emera for a few years in a TFSA (~2% of total portfolio). You seem to prefer other companies in the utilities sector. What is your preferred pick(s) for this sector and would you recommend switching out of EMA? I also have ~1.5% in ZUT. My other holding primarily consist of a split of broad market ETFs.

thanks,

Q: Hi,
I have a few questions.
1) BAM is still about 50% off its February high. Why is that, given that so many other stocks have recovered considerably more? What is your opinion of it as a long-term investment? What about BEP?
2) What is your opinion of MIC as a long-term investment? Does it at least merit a “hold” at present?
3) How likely is it that the following small-caps will survive the present crisis: PL, HTL, ENW, VFF and PILL.CN?
Thanks,
Camille

Q: I have no positions in renewable energy, my watchlist includes the 3 companies in question. Could you rate these 3, add a 4th if you you know of a stronger candidate in terms of balance sheet strength and growth prospects. I’m a long term, buy and hold investor.

Q: Hi,

Do you agree that many REITS and utility companies are historically way overvalued considering their lack of growth?
If I was to invest in REITS and utility companies for the next few years, could u pick 2 REITS you like for US and 2 for CDN exposure?
Could you also pick two utility companies you like for US and 2 for CDN exposure?

Q: Hi, what theoretically could be the impact on BEP in the unlikely event the parent company BAM runs into credit/solvency issues as a result of issues arising from its own portfolio holdings or with its cyclical oriented subsidiaries.. Would BEP continue as a stand-alone utility relatively unscathed or would there be repercussions? For instance could BAM suck cash out of BEP to shore up its balance sheet in a crisis situation? I learned from the GFC to not assume anything is totally safe. Hopefully not round 2! Thanks.

Q: Thank you to the whole 5I team for your precious help during these difficult times. I am retired and I hold shares in a corporate account of DIR and CAR with losses of approximately 30% each. The company is expected to close within 3 years. Do you think these 2 titles will go back to their paid level by then. If not, would it be appropriate to sell them take a tax loss and migrate to companies with slightly lower dividends but with more growth? I thought of BIP and BEP or BAM. If not, do you have any other suggestions?

Q: If we have yet to reach the worst of the virus threat and if the current question mark regarding the direction the price of oil will take in the future poses a problem, I think we have yet to see the lowest prices for these companies. The question is how much further down their prices can go. If my theory is correct, at what price would you take an initial position in these companies?

Q: Could you please discuss BAM/how it is structured with the other subsidiaries (infra, renewables)? I'm a bit confused as to how it all works.
Would you say it is best to buy BAM, or the infrastructure company or the renewables one and why?
They have all fallen a lot... but are they "cheap"?

Q: I am a buy and hold investor with 5 to 10 years of time horizon.
Have the following 7 stocks in Canadian Utilities in the order of their weights in our portfolio. Utilities makeup roughly 8.5% of the total portfolio including cash positions and like their dividend. FTS, TRP,EMA, AQN, ENB, BEP-UN, BIP-UN. I like to reduce exposure to utilities and also like to reduce number of different shares. Two questions:
1. Is 8.5% a reasonable weight considering the current situation?
2. Which one of these I should sell to reduce utilities weight and to reduce the number of shares in utilities?
