Q: Good Morning 5i,
Here's a different question guys: I am helping a good friend with his investing. He is a hard core hockey aficionado and wonders if there is any publically-traded company that he can purchase that is related to the game he loves. He already has some Rogers shares. I am stumped. Got anything? Leafs preferred but ultimately doesn't matter.
Thanks!
Kim

Q: Hello 5i Research Team, I'm a long time follower and new subscriber to your service currently looking to reestablish a diversified portfolio. Telecom especially in Canada is still rather archaic with respect to other developed nations and I believe there's a considerable amount of room for industry growth through investment in infrastructure development encouraged by government subsidies. Meanwhile the growing trend in digital cable and satellite seems to be people cancelling their packages and opting for web-based content distribution. Do you think that these companies have found alternate revenue streams to offset for this trend and if so which of the big 3 do you feel most confident in for future growth and stability of the dividend? Also, is there any evidence that NAFTA negotiations may allow for American telecom providers such as Verizon to enter the Canadian market in the future? Thanks!
Q: Hi Team,
Wondering what you think about Rogers as a short term trade. When I look at the 1 year chart I see a few levels of consolidation. Do you think it will pop back to recent highs or test one of the lower levels?
Thanks,
Jamie

Vanguard Communication Services ETF (VOX $190.65)
Q: Hi 5i: Two questions - please deduct points as appropriate.
(1) I'm looking for a good telecom stock to complete a sector allocation. I hold BCE and Telus in another portfolio, so am considering Rogers. Can you suggest any others, preferably US, or perhaps a US Telco oriented ETF?
(2) As above, for the utility sector of the portfolio; a US utility, or a US utility ETF.
Your advice would be much appreciated. Regards Roland

Q: Rogers is up some 37% in a year, 54% since I bought it in 2015, not including the dividend, blowing await Telus and BCE. Clearly the addiction to cell phones and data is growing and NHL Gamecentre has to be a real positive for them in getting subscribers. Just expanded LTE wireless in Manitoba. Do you think there's still legs or has it ahead of itself. Sell and pay the cap gain taxes or hang on for more good things?

Thanks for your help. Dorothy

Q: Greetings 5i,
I currently hold half positions in both BCE and RCI.B (BCE for stability and RCI.B for growth). I am a fairly conservative investor, and like the telecom sector for its ability (at least in my opinion) to be somewhat defensive in more volatile markets.
In your opinion, is it worth it to hold both of these companies, or would you recommend a single holding at a full position? If the latter, which would you recommend I keep?
Thank you.

Quebecor Inc. Class B Subordinate Voting Shares (QBR.B $51.91)
Q: I notice that you often recommend Telus and Rogers, but I haven't seen anything about Quebecor. However, I am up 38% over the last year. Is there something I am missing? I do like Telus, not so much Rogers. Do you like QBR.B and should I continue to hold? What news do you have in the pipeline that might make this stock not so desirable, if any? I can only find two comments about QBR.B in the past year.
Thanks, Elizabeth, Hamilton

Q: Good Evening 5i,
I need to add a "communications" company to my dividend fund. I would appreciate it if you could rank T, BCE, RCI.B and SJR.B for me. I'm planning on a 5 year hold and hoping for reasonable/modest annual increases in both the dividend and share price. Would you recommend 1 full position or 2 half positions?
Thanks for your great work as usual.
Dennis

Q: I am considering buying Rogers for my TFSA but I am worried about US carriers entering the Canadian market. I have lived in the UK and US and our cell phone costs are the highest I have experienced. Do you think this is something that should concern me?

Q: I have BCE and RCI.B. I had thought of dropping Rogers and buying Telus, now Rogers is moving somewhat. Would you recommend I replace one of the two with Telus? Keep the two I have? or invest in all three as I am underweight Telcos?
