Q: hello 5i:
have read a lot recently about GUD and J Goodman. Mr. Goodman seems to be the main resource; how dependant is the company on him, and what would management look like without him. Could they survive?

Q: Hi Peter,
Just wanted to say it is sure nice to read your insights on the market(Your article in the FP...Five reasons to ignore stock market doomsayers).
It seems that nearly everyday lately the Globe and Mail and the Financial Post have a story from some so called expert calling the end of the market.
"The experts seem to crawl out of the woodwork at this time of year every year".
Thanks, Charlie

Q: I currently own WCP, SPE,TOU,ESN,PPY,TOG but each stock holding is less than 1% of total portfolio weight. Since reading Ryan blog about weight allocation I am wondering if it would be best to sell some of these stocks and use the proceed to increase the weight in only 2-3 at this time. I am thinking that it would be best to keep WCP,SPE and TOU. Your thoughts on this move?
Thanks
Dolores

Q: Could you please provide your thoughts on this company. Would you recommend it for a small position in a high risk component of a portfolio? Thank you.
Q: I really cannot believe the beating that the railways are taking in the last week or so.They say that is is from the slow economy in Canada.Do you think they are over sold at this point and would it be a good time to buy.
Q: Just thought I would add to David's question on owning a REIT or a condo. The big difference in favour of owning a condo is your ROI. You can buy a 500k asset with only 20% down or 100k. Leaving you with a 400k mortgage. If your asset appreciates 10% over 5-7 yrs well now you have an asset worth 600k - 400K mortgage leaves you with 200k equity. This does not include the mortgage paydown by the tenants and expense write offs. You have just doubled your money. Then you can get a heloc and buy another property and repeat the process again. Try and do that with a REIT.
Q: I would appreciate your comments on the new rail safety regulations pertaining to oil transportation. The rails, including CNR appear to be selling off due to the impact the new regulations may have on expense ratios. Is this overdone?
Thanks,Hans
Thanks,Hans
Q: Hi Team,
I realize this is a totally apples to oranges comparison, but if you could only pick one of AVO or GUD for a 5 year hold, which would you choose? This is for a small position in an otherwise well-balanced portfolio. I currently own AVO but am tempted to switch to a company that has better market sentiment.
Many thanks for any thoughts you can share.
Michael

Q: Eif and kwh.un both reported recently which do you like for income and growth. thanks
Q: just to clarify on knight cash on hand equals about 4.86 a share, the stock is selling at this moment for 7.10, so the stock is not selling for cash on hand. having said that I know jonathan goodman, I own 20000 shares and if your patient on this one and by patient I mean 2 to 5 years I think you see a multi bagger maybe more.and goodman says in his quarterly statement gud things will come to investors who are patient.it is just a matter of time, my time frame is 24 hours but on this one I am willing to wait. dave
Q: Any comments on the results released today, and the company's prospects? Thank you!
Q: Thoughts on recent quarterly report and company progress moving forward? Seems like the next several quarters should start to show some revenues from upcoming revenues...more patience required
Q: Drop of 15% on Q1 results today! Do you think this is justified or not? Hold or sell? Thanks.
Q: I don't own GUD, but your recent comment that it is sitting on nearly 1/2 billion dollars piqued my interest. Google finance tells me the market cap of GUD is ~ 670M and has no debt. So if I but it at today's price and market cap, I'm basically buying it for cash on hand?!
Seems like a good place for some money.
Cam.

Q: Good morning,
Since Firstservice is no longer in a 5i portfolio and it seems to be in an incessant downward trend would you endorse a switch to Element Financial. Still have 33% gain in FSV and am tempted to exit & switch to EFN? bThanks for your ongoing excellent service.

Q: Hi,
RBC came out with a report last month on comparing CAR.UN/BEI.UN to renting a condo. Citing you would have done better over the long term with a REIT plus you do not have the hassle of dealing with tenants, possibly not being paid rent etc. What are your opinions with such a thought process of buying a REIT instead of a rental property? Is this a fair comparison?
