Q: STX.us just fell off a cliff. The yield is even higher now (but only because its price was trashed). Is this hard drive maker able to re-position itself or is it now a Dodo? Is dividend safe? Would it be an attractive target (for Western Digital-WD for example ?)

Is a shareholder better to sell STX and switch into WD? I prefer not to give up on companies too easily, but if you feel I should, I’d appreciate your thoughts.

Incidentally the software changes as described sound great.The ability to 'star' (mark) something for personal follow up will save much time. Also welcome is the new ability to search more than one symbol at a time. Best wishes, Adam

Q: This has to do with your changes as of today, why can't you continue to list the company symbols on the top of question as previously done ,and also the date that the questions were asked . I am not one for asking a lot of questions but can usually find the answers I am looking for by sorting through previously asked questions and if I now go to the Q&A page I can not find out how long ago the answers are given to a certain question . This is a good site but it was better yesterday . Murray

Q: Hi 5i Team, Empire Company had a 2015 unusual expense of $1.9B, what was this related too? Also, can you explain EMP's arrangement with Crombie REIT and whether you think it is a long term positive? Also, EMP has the largest concentration of stores in Eastern Canada (ON, QC, Maritimes). Based on recent challenges in the Western provinces & demographic data/projections do you feel that Canadians moving from West to East will have a positive material impact on EMP? Thx!

Q: I am looking to take advantage of opportunities in the Calgary office space segment given the low price of oil. I purchased Boardwalk at $43 and I'm quite happy with it. I'd like to purchase a best in class REIT that focuses on the Calgary or Western Canada office segment. What would you recommend? This investment is for my RRSP and I consider it to be long term.

Q: Hi, This is to send a note of commendation for how you set your stock selection strategy and discipline. It was clearly evident when you recently added PBH and KXS to the Balanced Portfolio with a full 5% position undeterred by the fact that stock traded at $55.69, close to its all time high. I would not have had the guts to initiate a position in PBH at these levels, watching stock price for 3 years, climbing steadily from $15-$16 level to present. New addition of PBH to my favorite 5i Portfolio was a your strong vote of confidence in the co. helping me to finally decide to pull the trigger and I am quite happy about it. I already had a full position in KXS from before. Thanks for the incredible value you offer to retail investors like me, everyday

Q: Hello,
Hoping to get your thoughts on Guestlogix. I own the Convertible Bonds.
It looks like they sold Openjaw but I don't think the sale price has been disclosed...PWC said the sale would provide enough to pay off all secured creditors and that there would be "significant" funds available for unsecured creditors.
Would you be able to:
1) provide your thoughts on the future of the remaining company
2) would the convertible bonds be considered unsecured or could they lump them in as equity?
3) Would you be willing to take a stab at a recoverable amount for the CV's, if any? Don't worry, I'm not expecting much.

Q: I have read that one or two "super" stocks can make up for a lot of losers. How is a super stock different from a growth stock with momentum which tends to fizzle out. Would averaging up be recommended or just let the weighting grow in the portfolio.

Q: Hi 5i, I just received a package from GWR for a special shareholders meeting later this month. One of the items to vote on is to move the stock listing over to the US Nasdaq listing. The rationale is to add more value to the stock, open the stock up to a larger pool of investors and to simplify the structure of the company. It looks very positive to me but could I get a second opinion on this development? The only downside I see is the stock will be a US security and there are tax considerations for Canadian investors.
