Q: Hi Team, I have a small weighting in MFR.UN. Capitol loss of 12% over 5 years or so. The yield is high so is there value in holding on for medium term or longer. A few concerns. Manulife website figures. Management fee is stated to be 1.1% yet MER is 3.81%. weighting 147% U.S. , & negative (short presumably) 59% Cad. The holdings are short duration so I cant see capital losses unless they are trading losses. There should surely be some currency gain from the U.S.currency holdings. My premise is that both rates and currency average about todays, over the next 3-4 years. Do you see any hope of recovery in unit value? Are they eroding capital to keep up the payout. Is the payout at least safe? Is this fund performance worth the management fee? Thanks.

Q: Hello,
Most of our Cdn equities are individual blue-chip dividend stocks and our US equities (25%) are mostly SPY. Those are doing ok I guess, though together only slightly better than our GIC's to be frank. Two of our holdings, which we've held for close to a decade, are still not good as noted below. When I asked about these before, I think you recommended continued patience as has our IA too. Your thoughts at this time please?
Holding Book Value Market Value DRIP
CIX $30k $16k Yes
MFR.UN $181k $154k ?

Q: So, this is a what am I missing question, and I have missed a lot over 30 plus years of investing. I have held this for INCOME for over 2 years and at a 2.5% weighting and a cost base of $8.25. An average yld of 8% more then suits my requirements for income. A part of my thoughts were this fund should actually do OK in a raising interest rate situation, however it seems to be dropping recently. Is this a simple market reaction, a negative view on Manulife as a parent, or am I wrong on my views for stable value here? I am thinking of adding to 3% and seek your views. Again this is for a Yield play and stable cost base. Thanks

Q: Good afternoon team
I’m looking to add to the income side of my portfolio and already hold 10-15% of ZPR and CPD.
I’d like to add another 5% to the income side of my portfolio so which one or two options do you advise?
I’m looking for more income with little or no growth as my equity weighting is fairly high in dividend paying stocks as well as growth stocks already?
Thnx in advance!

Q: Hello I5, my cash position is over 25% and would like to reinvest some of it. I would like to have your help to choose the ones with the least downside effect in case of interest rate increases, safest with some growth. Also, would appreciate your assessment of the Manulife (MFR and MBK)ones. Many thanks, J.A. P., Burlington

Q: Hallo I5, my cash position is over 25% and would like to buy one or more of the above stocks with div. income in mind and some growth. I would appreciate your help in my selection, perhaps suggest better ones. I like the chart of MFR.un but can not find any information MER, holdings, etc. I also own MAW104 and Maw105 in my portfolio and I am up 25% on both, should I take profit? Q: I have a question about Manulife Floating Rate Senior Loan Fund (MFR.UN). It pays a monthly dividend of .0563 (annual div .68) at today's share price of $8.48 for a yield of 7.96%. Is this riskier than a preferred share? Does the floating rate change monthly? Or is it set annually or on a longer period? This investment could be in my RRSP or TFSA account.

Q: I am considering buying either mfr.un or hhl.un, mainly for their 8% dividend for a 1 year hold. Would either be affected by a nominal rate increase? Mfr.un could be more stable and might benefit from an interest rate hike, protecting capital whereas hhl.un might be affected byU.S. politics. Could you please give your assessment?
