Q: Hi 5i team,
Questrade sends me an alert if there is trading volume 2x or higher the average volume for stocks I own. Today I received an alert in regards to Sylogist at 12:31. The volume was between 4-5x average, yet the price had not moved 1 cent all day to that point. This may be a silly question, but how can this trading activity be explained?

Q: Is there any benefit to owning this US hotel REIT when the CAD starts to appreciate vs. the USD? Although the distribution is paid in CAD, they must do all other business in USD. If this is true, will there be any concerns if/when either currency makes a big move in the other direction?
(Thank you in advance for helping me understand details like this. My overall portfolio is taking a beating, but I'm definitely learning a LOT :)

Q: I am thinking of taking a flyer on TDG in the risk oriented portion of my portfolio.It would not be more then 2%. I reviewed the Q 3 results and noted the div cut and unsurprising weak results. Question is do they have the moxie to survive and thrive going forward if I am looking at a longer term time horizon. I am always looking for beating down stocks in weak sectors that I feel I can reasonable expect a double on, is this a suitable pick? Thanks guys

Q: For a beginner:
As do many Q reports, AVO mentions 3 EPS figures
1. Basic Earnings per share
2. Diluted Earnings per share
3. Fully Diluted Adjusted Earnings per share.
I would appreciate information as to which of these are the earnings I should pay attention to. When 5i says the "expected" EPS is .18, which of the above type of earnings are being referred to?

Also, a learned gentleman, a business college professor, said on BNN the other day that ebitda is CRAP, and when pressed he said it was always, in all cases, pure CRAP, and has little if any meaning. What do you guys and gals think?

Q: Hello All,
I recently read an article in CMS about setting up a US income portfolio with call options. Have had some success with this strategy myself. I would like to use this strategy in the Canadian market with some present holdings - MFC,TD,BNS,RY,ENB,PWF,STN,SLF,HCG,MG as examples.
What are the pitfalls and possible advantages of selling covered calls in Canada? What Canadian stocks would you recommend?

Q: Hi,

In one of your previous responses about CXI, you mentioned that "the banking license still provides some significant upside potential". Can you please elaborate on why and what business opportunities you see from the banking license? Being a bank draws significant regulatory supervision and requires substantial amount of capital. The Canadian banking market is dominated by the big 5 or 6 so I am wondering what areas of banking CXI intends to expand into, and the expected margins on such businesses. Thank you,

Q: I hold CSU and have gained nicely to date. Last earnings report beat almost all analysts estimates, yet the stock continues to edge lower. The growth by acquisition model appears to be a negative influence in the market currently. What will be required for a fine enterprises such as CSU to distinguish itself going forward and not be painted with the same brush as VRX or CXR etc... Do you see further downdraft in the stock in the near term as a result of recent events and out of favor growth by acquisition companies. Where should one expect this stock to be 6 to 12 months from now.

Q: Your response to Grant on the above topic sparked a question in my mind.

When I read your response of IGM vs CIX i believe, if I comprehend your response clearly, you seem to prefer CIX as it has many benefits over IGM.

However IGM is in your income portfolio and CIX is not.

Can you clarify, if I were to buy one or the other would you reccommend CXI over IGM?
