Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I noticed insiders are buying. As you have noted people don't buy because they think the stock will go down. My cost is 8.25 and I think I should either sell or buy more. I know averaging up is best but if one does not want to buy more of their stock when it is down then I feel that is a lack of confidence in the company owned and then obviously it should be sold and absorp the lost and move on. Your thoughts please.

Q: Greetings 5i Team:

If you had to choose one of these companies to add new money to without regard to anything but expected growth over a 3-5 year time frame which would you choose and if you could please provide a brief rationale?

Thank you

Q: I am somewhat perplexed as to what to do with my DHX shares. While guidance for the company is muted for next year, I am wondering if profitably is the best way to measure this company. Personally, I had thought that its content was what was going to ultimately be the value in this company. Does the company (or analysts) provide current valuations of its assets or are they measured only on book value? Or is profitably still a key indicator of value, suggesting that the programming assets by definition mustn't be all that valuable or the company would be doing better. I am wondering if this may be a comparable situation to companies that have monetized their real estate assets to gain added value.

Appreciate your insight.

Q: Hi team - These two stocks have lagged lately. I am a long term investor, and am more focused on where the price is 5, 10 years from now, not the near or even mid-term noise.

I believe that you see both companies having strong management, but would you have confidence in their balance sheets over the long haul? I would like to add to both positions, but would hold back if you advised against it, or believe we could see the stocks drifting lower to even more attractive prices.

Thanks.

Jim

Q: I’m looking to add the equivalent of about 1 full position to consumer cyclicals.

I currently hold DHX.B (2.9%), AW.UN(3.4%), QSR(2%), CGX(2.4%). Right now I care about total returns and I lean towards profitable companies which pay, and regularly increase, dividends. I am not opposed to swapping out companies or adding in new ones though I do tend towards the buy & hold philosophy.

Your thoughts on this list, other options in the sector and where to introduce the new cash would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Gord

Q: The U.S small caps index had a 10 day string of gains, which hasn't happened for 5 years. It looks like animal spirits are finally back, and I'd like to buy before the "take-off". It seems it's easy to miss the boat these days, which happened to me with with U.S banks! Do you think this IWM move will carry over to the TSX small caps? I'm considering buying 1/3 positions in BAD, DHX, and ACQ. Thank you.

Q: Hi everyone,

Is it time to buy DHX or would I get a better deal if I wait for another couple of weeks?

What is the downside for DHX from here? The risks?

I am a long-term investor although it really hasn't worked well as a strategy. I have Disney only in movie industry and currently sitting on a loss.

Thanks for all your good work and independent advice.
