Q: Please explain the difference between "management fee" and" management expense ratio". Is the management fee included in the MER or separate? In other words to find out the total fees charged, one would add the 2 fees together. Correct??

Q: Can you verify the return of capital for HDIF.Not sure how I found a chart on it but if I am right it showed 87% ROC for 2022.Surely I am wrong . Also A new issue Is HRIF without leverage. Can you explain this? And also I currently hold some CIG686 for monthly income . Would you comment on a switch to either or or suggest something with less ROC .Please and thanks and use all questions to cover.Larry

Q: This is in response to Greg's question on cash etf's through TD Webbroker. I use the TD investment savings accounts, TDB8150 for CAD and TDB8152 for USD, they are structured as mutual funds but are not mutual funds, no mgmt fees, no trading fees, current rates are 4.05% and 4.15% respectively, interest is calculated daily and paid monthly, unit value $10 does not fluctuate i.e. no capital gains or losses. Check it out. You have next day liquidity if trade is placed before 3 pm ET and you can buy securities if these holdings are in your account as units are treated like cash, you just have to ensure you sell units to settle trades. Q: We have a diversified portfolio. We would like to automatically invest on a monthly basis going forward for the next 7-8 years. Can you suggest 3 no load mutual funds: 1. Canadian 2. US 3. General bond fund.

We understand that we cannot automatize ETF investments, so even funds that mirror the Canadian, US indices would be good.

Q: Hello 5i Research
I would like to initiate a position in mawer bond fund . I currently own most of their other funds , what are your thoughts or should I add to mawer Canadian balance fund that holds about 30 % bonds .

Q: Hi all at 5i!!
My son has a pension fund from his company administrated by Manulife .consisting of 20%NEI Jantzi Soc Index ( Canadian large cap) 20%BMO CDN Small-cap, 20% MMF Us dividend income fund, 20% ML FC Us Equity, and 20 % ML Mawer International Equity. Does this combo seem Reasonable or any red flags here. This is for long term growth and the choices were limited. I value your thoughts.

Q: Good morning,

If the onus is on the taxpayer to adjust one's ACB on mutual funds every year when there is a return of capital ("ROC"), how likely do you think it is that the CRA has as good a handle on what your ACB is on a particular holding?

I am fine to do it, and have been doing it annually for years. But as I started the process yesterday for the 2022 tax year, I could not help but wonder if it really is worth it. It is such a manual process that I struggle with how the CRA could track something like this for every individual tax payer.

Q: Hi 5i
For income and some growth, I continue to hold Fidelity Asset Allocation Private Pool Series F8 (374), in a corporate account. It is the only investment in the account. I have two questions.

1) In your opinion is this still a good choice?
2) Could you suggest an alternative to replace part or all of FID374?

I own Maw global small cap and have rode it up and down. I am given to understand that it is a good fund but the MER is high. Is there an ETF of a similar nature that I could reinvest my money in??

Q: Hi there,

I've been digging into a few of the Fidelity funds which have seemed to perform well over the short, medium and longterm. What are your thoughts about the follow funds and if you were going to build an asset allocation using one or a selective mix of the funds, how would you go about doing so? Also, can you please provide any insights on the different classes of mutual funds available? I believe F and F5 are available to DIY investors.
