Q: I am interested in buying ETFs for precious metals. I have read that it is important to ensure that the ETF company holds the metal physically and does not lend it.

I am surprised at the difference in MERs amongst popular funds. For example, for platinum, PPLT is very popular. Its MER however is 0.6% whilst the less popular iShares SPLT is 0.2%.

Do you see any reason why SPLT would be riskier? What words do I need to look for to ensure that the ETF physically holds the metal and does not lend it out?

Thank you for this excellent advice.

Q: I’ve invested in a mining stock called Almonty that has been extremely successful as of late. It’s up over 300 per cent in the last six months. This week it’s been on a terrific run.
The company is just about to mine the highly sought tungsten in South Korea. The price of tungsten continues to go up and it’s in great demand esp by the US government. The plan is to move headquarters to the US and to fulfill contracts with a number of nations. There’s multiple years of this mineral to be mined as well as molybdenum.
What’s not to like about this burgeoning company that appears to be on the threshold of a very successful run?

Q: You recently responded to a question suggesting investing in materials as ‘inflation protection’. I have zero exposure to the sector. I have 10% of my portfolio in IBIT in lieu of precious metals.

Would you consider bitcoin exposure as an effective alternative to materials for inflation protection?

Also, please offer your top 3 names in the materials sector, Canada or US, ranked if possible.

Thank you.

Q: Would you have suggestions for ‘undervalued’ gold stocks in relatively safe countries, producers if possible? I took some profits on my holdings: AEM, TXG, OR, CXB. I have FNV too.

I am waiting for my remaining CXB to be exchanged for EQX soon. Do you think this is a good deal and EQX worth holding? It did not perform that well in the past.
Thanks a lot.

Q: Would you still be a buyer of gold at this level? If so, do you prefer the miners or just a physical gold ETF? If the former, what companies do you currently prefer?
Many thanks!

Q: I just got my monthly dividend for GDXY in my account dated June 23/25 ..... Multiplying the amount by 12 and then dividing it by the current value of the position { and then multiplying by 100 } I came up with a 68.62%% yield { annualized } for the month of May. { April was up too at 59% } ..... That is considerably higher than the 42% the ETF is shooting for .... First, are my figures correct ? ..... And second can this increase be attributed to what I call the " Trump Option Premium " ? .... Trump's on again off again tariffs, and whichever country he decides to threaten or bomb the snot out of ...... This makes for a volatile market which makes for higher option premiums ? ..... If not to what does 5i attribute these two months of higher than the norm yields to ? ...... { In a few days my SLVO dividend will be deposited. It will be interesting to see what that annualized return will be . It was 32.5% for April } ...... Thanks for your terrific service .....

Q: Can you please comment on Sprott Silver Miners & Physical Silver ETF (SLVR). The ETF is new as of early 2025: does it pay a dividend? I am looking for small cap silver miner exposure and SLVR appears to hold 64% small caps less than $2B. Most of the holdings are in Canada. I don't know how much Eric Sprott has control over the holdings. Or is SILJ a safer bet: it has about 34% small caps, $300M to $2B and pays a nice dividend of about 5%.
