Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: My apologies, as I tried to send an email from my phone earlier today, and had problems with service, and phone.
I thought I had completed my dudiligence on syz, and seemed like a great buy coupled with insider buying. Technicals indicate oversold, as well as RSI is low.
Markets were not good today, however what is wrong here, and should I be selling to average my loss.
Thanks for the great service

Q: WSP recently reported Q4 and year-end results and,to me, they appear excellent. Could you comment on the results as well as on the news they were selling all their shares in Norwegian company multiconsult AS? Is this a good move? Thanks for the excellent service.

Q: Hello Peter & Team,

For the most part my portfolio is doing extremely well. I was able to take the majority of my O&G profit off the table end of last summer, my Healthcare Biotec sector is doing well, and I have enjoyed a number of winners inc AYA, CGX & EFN (all thanks to you) TWX, Dis & WFC and APPL among others.

I have a few small positions in higher risk companies which I was willing to lose on - risk/reward. And I will continue to hold tough as per your advice re AVO... in for the long haul there.

BUT, your article on cutting your losers is sticking with me, and one of my losers is CVL - in 13 months down 20% after a consistently increasing and fairly good dividend.

It appears the March 10 report was fairly positive with increases in revenues, gross profit $$$ & EBITDA. The only glaring item I could see was profit attributable to shareholders decreased $4.7 million. Maybe this is attributable to the Peterbilt acquisition...

I have this nagging urge to throw in the towel and look elsewhere for something which might show some signs of growth. O&G is getting interesting with the middle east in conflict again - specifically WCP which has been one of the best at weathering the oil situ.

What would you suggest I do...

Hang tough with CVL for a while longer and if so what time frame should I consider? Is there any good news you can see on the horizon and what would have to happen for the stock price to react positively?

OR

Forget about all that, sell my position at a loss and look elsewhere? And if so, where would you suggest I look?

Really appreciate your time and all you do for us

Q: Hello Peter & Co,
Question 1: I've been holding STN for about a year to watch it hibernate (long winter of discontent) while WSP seems to be the flavour of 2015 (investors seem to like its recent acquisitions sending the RSI way up in the overbought stratosphere); your thoughts please.
Question 2: I have lumped BIN, BIP.UN, CCL, CNR and STN in the Industrial, Transports, Infrastructure sector and CHE.UN, IFP and SJ in the Materials sector; is it reasonable?
Thanks for your A+ service

Q: Hi Team
Many thanks for your quick response re AYA news today re: the IPO filling for its wholly owned subsidiary - Innova. I should have been more clear that it was actually a two-part question.
The last part of the news indicated that in addition to their "Innova" subsidiary IPO filing, Amaya itself would also be doing a secondary offering.
Again, I would appreciate your expert comments on this news as well.

Q: Hi Team,
News re: Amaya - Innova Gaming Group Inc. ("Innova"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Amaya, has filed and obtained a receipt for a preliminary prospectus in respect of Innova's proposed initial public offering of common shares... The Offering contemplates a treasury offering of common shares by Innova and a secondary offering of common shares by Amaya, which will receive the net proceeds for the common shares sold by it under the Offering.
How do you perceive this news?

Q: Hello Team
TD Waterhouse states that the dividend Payout ratio of WIN is 201%. Does that mean that they are paying out 201% more than the cash they are taking in? Other than that all their fundamental numbers seem to have (+) signs. What does the 5I team make of their numbers.

Thank You
Clarence

Q: WIN has been extremely weak the past few days. There appears to be no news on the company to account for it. What is your take on the company. Is it a hold or sell?

Q: Hi, I wonder if you would clarify the mechanics Gildan stock split for me - specifically the date of implementation? On the Gildan website it is described as a stock dividend with a record date of March 20th, but the stock is still trading at its pre-split price. When is the last day to purchase the stock pre-split?

Thanks

Q: Hello,

Considering that WIN is at 52 weeks lows and the 7% yield, do you think it's "safe" to use it as bond replacements?

Thanks

Q: Are you surprised at the listlessness of High Liner Foods, today, given the Kraft/Heinz deal? Looks like Kraft went from 19x this year's earnings to 26x this years earnings with its move today.

Do you have any insight whats to account for the large estimated eps increase from 2015 to 2016 for High Liner ($1.55 to $1.97)

Thanks.

Q: I have a 3.5% position in Cannacord and down 38%. Volume is low but the price seems to have caught a bottom. I am very tempted to average down my cost. Do you think I would still be trying to catch a falling knife? Do insiders own a lot of the company? Thanks.
