Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Well the stock is getting hit really hard today. Is a 40% drop justified in your opinion? Unfortunately I still hold a small position having sold most of my shares earlier this year when the shorts were pounding the table on this company. What is your sense about continuing to hold the shares? The other concern has to do with the dividend. Do you believe that it will be maintained or is a cut probable?

Q: Could you suggest some candidates to buy during year-end tax loss selling, either from the 5i universe or more generally? I am considering BOX, DHX.B, VCM, KBL, DH. Your views on these five would be appreciated.

Q: Good Day Team; I've had a small position in CGI for a few years now, and am considering a switch to DH. Would you say that the forward growth (3-5 years) of these two companies would be comparable, and if that is true, would the additional DH dividend make a switch more attractive.

thanks,

Q: 1) The board of directors is staffed with a lot of what seems to be high level financial people with a lot of experience, what I did not see was a high level IT person, which for a company who is selling IT solutions for banks seemed a little remiss. My question was "how can you manage that portion of the company in a very specialized area if not even one person on the board knows anything about IT?

2)There was nothing in the literature about the security of their IT platforms. In the age where IT security and on line financial fraud is a huge concern, I thought it should have at least a nod in the presentation.

Thank you.

Q: I submitted this question last Thursday and received the auto response that my question had been submitted but since I haven't received a response I will try again.
My question relate to the income portfolio. We own many stock from the 3 portfolios but now that we are about to retire, we are trying to mimic the income portfolio. I understand that if one already owned ET, SPB, VNR, and DH that we should stick with them however, if one was constructing an income portfolio today can you suggest substitutes for these names? Also, given the dividend that ZCL pays, would it be suitable for an income portfolio?
Thank you.

Q: In 2016 I had significant realized capital gains as I sold off shares to re-balance my portfolio. Currently I am in a loss position with the above mentioned companies. I was thinking of selling shares in these six companies to help offset the realized capital gains. Which of these shares do you think I should buy back after 30 days to avoid the superficial capital loss? Normally I would not be selling them, but for tax purposes I am contemplating doing so. AAPL makes up a significant part of my Info Technology sector and GILD is my only exposure to the health care sector. If I do not buy back the other four companies it will not impact my asset mix in my portfolio significantly. Is this the right time of year to do tax loss selling for these companies?

Thank you

Q: I need to increase my weighting in the "Technology" space and currently own equal weightings of AVO, MDA, OTC, SYZ and WSP. With $50K to spend, would you buy a new company (I am thinking DH Corp or whatever div paying company you recommend) OR would you just increase your stake in one or more of these currently owned companies. I know you have WSP and DH as "Industrials" but can it not be argued that they are "Tech"?

Q: In your recent report on DH, you make the statement "investors seem worried that DH will suffer in the financial industry shift to Fintec solutions, but we are less concerned". However, you don't appear to explain why you are "less concerned"other than they have a strong and diverse client base. Is there anything else that supports your opinion?

What is the thesis being advanced by the short-sellers?

Incidentally, I have owned this company for a number of years and I agree with your B+ rating

Q: The guest on BNN Market Call Tonight - John Kim - mentioned on the show that DH is planning some kind of a media event for the public to go over DH's fin tech business. This is supposed to give this business more clarity and transparency on its operations.

If true, can you tell us more about this "event", in terms of timing and content? I think, if the company can cast a positive light on this business, this maybe the much needed catalyst to pull the DH share price from its recent death spiral.

Thanks.

Q: So what is the debt of this company and how large is short position and what is the main reason that it is being shorted, earnings are fine, paying down debt, not over priced, but overall these shorts have everybody convinced that this is not a stock to own, so should a person wait till the next earnings period to buy this stock. Thanks.
