Q: Hi,

Can you comment on the work involved in institutional analysis and also expand on your comment about the short position holder reactions to the earnings release at avo. I would have expected at least flat pricing after the Quarterly, but see it down now 14%, are short traders driving this? Also, rbc and cibc both changed their targets on the stock within 12 hrs of the earnings release, it seems quick for thorough review. Finally, was there anything on the conference call hosted by the CEO that you found interesting?

Q: I have a sizable amount to invest. I have the balanced portfolio currently as prescribed. I am thinking of adding to all positions in equal amounts.Goldcorp scares me however so I may just leave that one. Any other concerns. Bin had a drop but now has stabilized and looks ok

Q: I held WIN for income, which I thought was safe. Are there any stocks which yield 6%+, are outside the reit space and are better managed and "safer" than WIN. I'm thinking along the lines of calian tech, which I also hold.

A top 3 would be great.

Q: For 2015 AVO have predicted a 2015 adjusted diluted EPS of 0.79. This is less than the 2014 adjusted diluted EPS of 0.80.This is a 1% decline from last year
They have not predicted the IFRS diluted EPS figure. Assuming a stock price of 10$CDN this gives a P/E of 12.7 and a PEG ratio of Minus 12.7.

It seems many investors consider a positive PEG ration of 1 or less is a good buy.

What am I missing. Is the PEG ratio not reliable.

Q: We are now doing our own trolling for answers. The Investment Reporter downgraded Wi-Lan to a hold in May 2015 because:

1) Its shares had plunged by over a fifth.
2) They estimated WIN would earn 3 cents per share this year
3) It trades at an excessive p/e ratio of 91 times
4) The dividend looks too high
5) Thinks the market expects the firm to cut its dividend
6) Cash of over US $118 million – debt US $43.3 (good)

Seems they got it about right, however last month they had WIN as a buy “for long-term gains and rising dividends”!

Nobody is perfect. What percentage do the directors own?

There seems to be something strange going on with the Hydro One IPO. I wanted the shares for steady reliable income. I got half of the shares I asked for at TD Waterhouse but neither my Scotia McLeod with whom I had expressed a strong interest [and Scotia McLeod were co-underwriters so they should have been able to get some easily] nor my National Bank brokers had any and both said their offices didn't even ask for any shares. Yesterday John Zechner on BNN was at best lukewarm on the issue and suggested waiting a few days before buying any shares in the market.
We know one or more of the large pension funds wanted to take the entire offering but the Ontario Government were committed to a public IPO.
Do you have any idea what is going on. Will the pension funds drive the price down so they can buy up most of the shares on the open market? Am I missing something important? Your thoughts most appreciated

Q: WIN has not created any shareholder value over so many years and now they have the audacity to cut dividend by 75% even though they have so much cash, which does not make any sense at all. I have lost 50% of the value in this stock in less than a year. What do you suggest should I do. Hold the stock or sell it and buy something like TNC etc to recuperate the losses. Thanks

Q: Wow what a negative surprise. I thought they would keep paying the dividend with their large cash balance . Should I sell now with an dividend of 11% plus or hope the go back to 9% effective dividend with the lower payout. I know $2.50 is long gone. What do you make of their new strategy. Thank you for your advice. Mike

I'm down 50%. When (or how) would you determine that a company has very low downside potential but good up-side?

Q: I'm sure you'll get a flood of questions today about Wi-Lan to chime in on their latest quarterly results and lowering of their dividend. I'm pretty disappointed that the board chose to lower their dividend by that much when:

1) they have so much cash on their books
2) they are restructuring to spend less on SG&A

As a shareowner, I'm not happy with how they are not passing through their cash and instead intend to keep on their books instead.

What is your outlook on WIN?

Q: Wylan has indicated it is "spinning out its R&D unit". Is this a significant action or do we need more details to understand the value to the company.
