Q: Which of these 2 stocks stock would be better to buy during this downturn caused by the Chinese yuan being devalued?

Q: I bought XTC based on your report touting this name as the "perfect stock". I see it as a growth stock with a negligible dividend. So far its SP popped heading into the announcement of the last two quarterly results and so far have slide back thereafter. It just does not seem to have any traction to hold onto those the gains, or advances based on the growth reported.

Has XTC hit the "proverbial wall" that all stocks do? Even Disney and Apple hit that wall eventually. I'm sitting on a small gain with XTC now, other than advising patience, would you recommend that I should sell before the next run up to Q3 earnings, say when its SP hits $18+? After all a growth stock that stops growing is dead money and I should really move on.

Your take on my view is much appreciated. Thanks.

Q: Hi Peter,
Constellation software keeps dropping. Is this just a reaction to the current market conditions and that it has had a good return of the year, and hence profit taking? Also, I thought (from what I read) Fairfax had its portfolio setup such that it would be protected somewhat to declines in the market, yet it is dropping like other stocks. Any comments please? Thanks again.

Q: There is relentless selling going on with PHM, and it seems there is no bottom for it. There are 46 millions of shares financed at $1.50 will come to free trade in September. Do you think PHM will be under more pressure around that time? Should investors just take a loss and move on? Do you know any company can make a turn around like this from your past experience?

Q: A technical question: Yesterday I bought 1000 BRE via CIBC, another 1000 via Interactive Brokers. Still all the news sources only reported 450 shares trading. Were my 2000 shares bought on alternative exchanges? In general, hat percentage of trades go outside of the TSX?

Q: What do you think about Emera earnings? They don't look that great to me, but the market loves the big dividend increase and higher predicted dividend growth rate. Can they do this based on predicted cash flow growth, or will it be by increasing the payout ratio? Thanks for you comments.

Q: Hi Peter, I have just read in the financial news this morning "Germany's 2-year yield fell to a fresh record low of -0.29 percent as investors feared the deflationary pressures of a slowdown in China - which devalued its currency on Tuesday - would sap growth around the rest of the world". (Ref: Reuters). Question: how can a yield of minus 0.29 percent be possible? Thanks, Gervais

Q: I was considering purchasing CDZ - the dividend aristocrat concept seems good - the ETF information indicates that each holding -" have increased ordinary cash dividends for at least 5 consecutive years;"

I note that the largest holding in the ETF is Bird Construction but on a search for the dividend history it hasn't increased the dividend since March, 2013. This doesn't fit with one of the qualifying conditions as quoted above. How then can this company be in this ETF?

You have made favourable comments on CDZ as an investment and expect you still think it to be?

Thank you for your valued information. Len

Q: I would very much appreciate your opinion on the fixed income portion of my portfolio. I assume that laddered bond ETF's such as CBO and CLF will do well in a rising rate environment (am I correct?) but what about the following bond elf's?...... XBB, XHB, XQB, ZCM, and ZCS??? How will they do as rates rise? Are there other bond strategies that will preserve capital for the long haul? I have recently renewed my membership for another year and appreciate very much all the excellent advice your firm offers. Thank you for your response.
