Q: Having just lost a pile of dough on Cipher (moved on as suggested) And having averaged down my cost on BOS a month ago, I am now down 48 per cent on BOS. I can hold for four more years if you think the company has merit. I don't need to sell am sitting on a lot of cash. But I am not mentally prepared for a 75 per cent loss. Do you think it can have a better 2017 or take my loss. Thanks for your sage advice.

Q: Recently a number of 5i covered stocks got hit with bad earnings. If you already own good companies like SIS and TOY which ones should the above be replaced with at this time.

Q: My portfolio is light on industrials as I only own wsp and sis. What else could I add? I'm not comfortable with nfi as I find it expensive. What are 4 or 5 names that you like in the industrial sector. Would a rail company be a good idea as I beleive they fall under industrials.

Q: What is the risk / reward currently for BOS. Looking at the charts the share price has and continues to drop. BUT ... at today's price is looking very oversold using the RSI and Williams % as indicators. If you owned this (as I do and am sitting on a large loss and buying into your thesis that the company will do better over time), would you add now? It is a small %age of my portfolio.

Thanks.

Q: Peter and team:

I am down 20 to 45 % in these four names and am thinking of consolidating my portfolio and realising some capital losses. Of the four at his time, which would you hold, sell for capital loss and potential buy back, or ditch altogether.

In particular I was wondering about DRT and if I should sell now or wait until after the quarterly report which I believe is Nov. 04th.

Thank you as always for an excellent service!

Phil

Q: Hi Gang,

You mention an expected sell-off of BOS & XTC before year end.

What would you expect the timing and bottom resistance for the sell-off of each company to be?

I would like to take advantage of the tax avoidance while minimizing my hit in participating in the sell/repurchase. I have high hopes for both entities but maybe my focus should be elsewhere?

Thank you for your input and all the great work you all do. This is a great community and I am happy to be a part of it.

Q: Could you suggest some candidates to buy during year-end tax loss selling, either from the 5i universe or more generally? I am considering BOX, DHX.B, VCM, KBL, DH. Your views on these five would be appreciated.

Q: (You may receive this twice, but when I sent in the message a few minutes ago, I received an error message that suggests it may not have gotten through.)

Do you have an estimated date for when these companies report their 3Q earnings, and whether they may have telegraphed expectations? Thanks.

Q: I am looking for a term of reference from 5 I on how to decide when to finally get rid of a company, despite that it might be a good one, overall.

In the case of MDA, for instance, you finally threw in the towel because, essentially, it has been dead money for some time even though there's nothing much wrong with it.

Would it not be the same case, then for Airboss? I've come back to where I started, at mid-$15s ... and then watched it drop, almost daily until yesterday it whispered by on $13. Is it not time to throw in the towel on this one as well: to acknowledge that though it may be a good business, it's a lousy stock and opportunities are being wasted.

Would it not fall into the same category as Linamar, and Magna, for instance, who are now just treading water as well, due to a lull? Once again, great companies, but it doesn't seem to be the time to own them.

While I am a longer term investor, yes, and take the long view, I think perhaps treading water with Airboss is not a good thing right now.

Your thoughts, please. They are always much appreciated!
