Q: An article of interest to members on Nobelist Eugene Fama: "So Fama’s ideas have made an enormous contribution to how people invest, saving them billions in fees which generated beautiful homes for fortunate mutual fund managers but less than nothing for their customers." - See more at: http://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2013/10/eugene-fama.html#sthash.fZuPDfSt.dpuf
About a year ago you were on BNN stating that you’re after the next ‘50 bagger’. A few months ago, another member asked you about your fav past picks, to which you replied Priceline and one other (I believe). My question is related to smaller cap / speculative stocks, you current favs, and is obviously geared more towards those willing to go up on the risk curve:
1. Do you have a couple, more speculative, names that you are a fan of right now (ie. what you feel can be the next 50 bagger)? Anything that you are ‘pounding the table’ about?
2. Do you have any general tips / guidelines that you can share relating to investing in these size companies (ie. Don’t invest more than ___% of your portfolio in micro cap / spec stocks?)
I currently own KBro and Magna, but remain underweight in Health Care and Industrial sectors. Based on your reports and comments, I think I will be adding all of: Paladin Labs, Stantec and MDA shortly. My questions:
1. Are they still good buys given recent positive run, or do you have another name with more upside?
2. Can you recommend a US name in Health Care and Industrial sector for me to consider (younger investor after growth)?
3. I can only buy 1 company now, the others in 30 days, which would you get asap?
As always, thank you. I was raving about the value received here at 5i around the Thanksgiving table!
Q: Thanks for the great advice over the past year or so. I've done very well with BAD, CSU, MG, ESL, STN and VRX. Now I want to lock in some of that "paper" profit. Two questions: how do the safety of bonds compare to bond ETF's (or do you recommend another option)? Second, what bond ETF would you recommend,if capital preservation is the main priority? Thanks!
Q: hi badger bad is now 71.3 with p/e of 29.5; div yd down to 1.5% and forward earnings 19 x. do you feel this is an expensive stock and if you have a big gain it may be time to exit or do you believe there is still room for advancement
Q: hi, pvg pretium took a big tumble because strathcona minerals resigned as a qualified person yet the other qualified person is still there. i own this stock and was going to add, what is your opinion? should i stay on side lines till dust settles .
Q: A few questions about FXM and WXM, which are Morningstar's ETFs that follow a momentum and value style respectively. These have spectacular >20 year 'theoretical' ie. backtested records. Is this something that will likely beat the TSX in the future or are there usually problems with backtested mechanical strategies going forwards? Do they trade at a premium to NAV and where do I find their NAV figure? Thanks.
Q: Hi This is a follow-up of Neil's question (Oct 11) about CIPF coverage. If I have a margin account but don't use margin or shorts, would it have the same safety as a cash account? What if I have some options? Thanks Henry
Q: should i buy lightstream resources (LTS.TO). It is down due to rumor about
the possible reduction of monthly dividend. Some believe the dividend cut is already priced into the stock price. A long term buyer (2 years) would be rewarded at this entry level ($6.81). Your thoughts please.
Q: Could you give an update on Vista Gold (VGZ), specifically on the large volume and drop in price over the last month. Also why the price has declined so much in the last year.
I would think the Sprott loan extension a month ago would have been positive for the stock
Thanks
Q: Hi 5i
Belong to an investing club and we are adding finning and shawcor to our portfolio . We figure these pipelines need to be built . Would this be a good time to add either one to a TFSA ? Or are these to cyclical for that type of account .
Q: Hello all:
The Canadian portion of my portfolio holds 18 stocks. Of those 18 stocks I hold BCE, RCI.B and T. I am thinking of selling one of those and buying VRX to increase my diversification. My question is, 1. is this a good idea, 2. which telecom should I sell, and 3. Is VRX a good choice, is it too late to get in now. Thanks.
PS I just renewed my subscription. Thanks for a great service.
Q: Hi 5i: What is your opinion on Transcontinental TCL common and their preferred. Common has a steady climb in price. The preferred pays a great dividend.
Thanks as always.
