Q: Hi folks, new member here with a first question !
I am a Quebec resident investing inside a corporation (holdco). I currently have cash to deploy and wondering if i should invest in Horizon "Tax-Optimized" ETF (HXT/HXS).
For the US holding, I already hold VTI but I want to avoid purchasing more USD denominated securities to avoid US estate tax liabilities in the future. So my pick is between VUN and HXS.
For the Canadian holding, I already hold VCE. My pick is between VCN/VCE and HXT.
I understand how Horizon ETF works but i am wondering if they make sense in my particular situation (holdco, quebecers, etc).
Q: re Petrowest Corp PWSEF... road/pad builder for oil companies... Considered one of the best companies in crushing work in Western Canada it has done well the past 18 months. Announced $26 mill contract in Dec 2014 to expand Hyw 63 Edm - Ft McMurray. Can you comment on what we might expect in the coming year?
Q: Hi
Do you consider ANV as quite speculative in the gold and silver sector.
If the precious metals stay strong this company seems to have lots of room to increase in price.
I look forward to your opinion.
Have a nice weekend

Q: It seems that every time I buy a stock everybody else should short it because it drops 12-18% within the next couple of weeks. Here are 5 that have already had this drop recently: Y, AVO, AD, MMW, HNL. Would be a buyer of any of these? I appreciate this type of service that you supply.
Q: Hi Peter
Re Fsv.
I am looking to replace my DI.UN.... It has done so so this year . It is showing some life . I was thinking about replacing it with FSV...would you consider this a good move? It is in my TFSA .. I would like a more aggressive mover
Q: I am (still) overweight in financials...BNS 10.3%, TD 13.2%, PWF 2.3% and SWF 3.7%. I sold out our position in BMO and bought G & AEM for a total position of 3% in Precious Metals. I am thinking of selling PWF and adding to either Precious Metals or Energy sector (PEY, SGY & VET) for an 11% weighting. Does this make sense to you? 5i seems to be generally positive on PWF... Canadian Banks seem to be well managed, protected from competition and well capitalized so the question becomes why sell anyways. The PWF is inside the RSP so there is no capital gains tax to pay.
We are near retirement age but our dividend income seems to be exceeding our expenses without considering CPP and my wife's small pension.
Thank you.
Q: Peter,
I know you have commented on DEE, Delphi Energy in the past. Have you looked at it recently? It seems like it has had a lot of good news lately. I appreciate your opinion.
I am thinking to follow the model portfolio with about 200k starting next week I plan to substitute TCN for FSV (since I hold that one already) and a ~ 5% allocation in each of the 20 stocks.
What are your thoughts on this approach, would you substitute any others at this time?
Are you expecting a major rebalance of some of the names in a few weeks?
Would you change the allocation to the current allocation of the portfolio or is the 5% target reasonable.
Q: Just wondering about the silver market and where you think its going in the near future. As well what do you think of INM as they have found some silver down there in Mexico. Thanks for your insight
Q: Hello best team.
do you have any insight in dsm?
It focuses on rare earth.
With the precious metals heading in the right direction, could this be interesting as well?
Q: I currently have 25% of my total portfolio in resource stocks with the majority (50%) of that in gold (G, YRI, ABX) and silver stocks (SLW). With Teck’s recent drop, would you sell ABX and use the proceeds to buy Teck (to add some diversity and get a better overall return - hopefully) or would you hold on to ABX and ride the current gold bull up? I have a 2 year time frame.
Q: Peter: I have been researching a number of fast growth companies and came across Thermal Energy (TMG). I typically do not invest in penny stocks but the financials look compelling. Can you comment? I am not adverse to risk.
Thank you
