Q: Could I get your view on ANV (Allied Nevada), in light of it's big drop today on the negative news. The news may be negative but it seems they are on top of it and being straight forward with the situation.
Thanks

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

Any thoughts on Virginia Mines, VGQ? especially the value of their Eleonore project alone when the mine starts up in 2015.

Q: Hi Peter and Team, any insight into recent activity on Novus, NVS would be appreciated? I just heard rumours that there may be a deal in the works ready to be announced soon. By any chance have you heard if NVS was affected by the heavy rains where they are drilling/producing? When do they release their next results? Thanks!

Q: Hi Peter:

I have been managing my own portfolio for over 30 years. It is now more than seven figures value. I am reaching a stage where the number of stocks and mutual funds are exceeding my capacity to monitor them. I tried several discretionary managers and to my disappointments none of them made me any decent return. The best of them had a total return of 7% over 4 years period. I am either selecting the wrong ones or had high expectations.

I have two thoughts, one is to migrate half my portfolio to your model portfolio and manage the other half myself. The other thought is to find a manager that can review my portfolio on a periodic basis and suggest changes “for a fee of course” but don’t know how to find them.

Any suggestions,

Thanks

Q: Hi 5i team,

Do you see the recent pullback in DHX Media as a buying opportunity? I can't seem to find any news on the recent price decline. I assume profit taking from its run up over the past year. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Q: Not a question, but a comment: regarding YAK, it is a company run by Harris Kupperman and Jordan Calonego, who have experience running a hedge fund (Praetorian) and several small businesses (self storage, construction, etc.), respectively. As far as I know, they take no salary, have no stock options, and instead simply hold ownership of the shares to align their interests with shareholders. There was a strange lockup period with the shares for quite some time, and selling was extremely restricted.

The Mongolia Growth Group website has all their monthly reports and updates, and Harris runs a website adventuresincapitalism.com, which has some pretty interesting commentary from time to time. I believe there was a presentation on YAK at the Las Vegas Value Investors Conference.

I don't own any shares, but have been keeping an eye on the company for a while. I like the Mongolia thesis, but view an investment as being at the top end of the risk spectrum since frontier market governments can nationalize assets at any time.

Q: Hello all ... Interest rates are such a big factor in my retirement forecast. With the lowering of interest rates in Australia and comments by Mark Carney from the UK of rates not to go up till '15, are these countries indicators of when interest rates may increase here in Canada.

Thanks for your comments.
