Q: Can you give me your thoughts on Counsel Corp, CXS, poor performance in the past few months and it's outlook going forward. All my other financial stocks, CM, BNS, TD and HCG have done well but CXS has mystified me despite reasonably good results last quarter.
Also I got shares of HGP as part of their special dividend and while I would like to sell these shares the price changes from day to day but my discount brokerage account shows no trading activity. Why is that?
Unfortunately I did not buy CF after your report was released. Sure had a good run. Can you give us you opinion on the recent results released once you have had time to review and more importantly what kind of growth and future prospects you see for CF as a result? Thanks
Q: Comment to Shirley re: the new EFN preferred share issue: If you are interested in this new issue, I strongly suggest that you consider instead a "market purchase" of EFN.PR.C, which was issued a few months ago, and offers both a better (+0.1%) coupon rate and a higher (9bp) reset rate, while obviously having an identical credit quality and nearly the same reset date (a few months earlier). Furthermore, EFN.PR.C is about to go "ex-dividend", and so will from the start give an additional nearly 41 cent advantage over the new EFN issue. At the moment I'm writing this, EFN.PR.C is trading at $25.00.
Q: Would be interested in any up-dated thoughts on Urbana (URB.A)since last mention in Oct/13. The fund is now about a third US big banks ie. B.of A., Citi, and Morgan Stanley in addition to exchange holdings: they have initiated an annual dividend
( approx. 2.75%); continue to buy back shares: and trade at about 35% discount to NAV. Your thoughts, any caveats appreciated.
Thank-you

Short Description: Offering of Cumulative 5-Year Rate Reset Preferred Shares, Series E

Q: Can you provide an opinion on Elements (EFN) purchase of PHH Arval. As well, would you recommend purchasing any of the new issues associated with this purchase. I notice that the 6.4% 5 year rate reset issue is not sold out yet at TD. Can you provide your comments to this as well. Thank you.
Q: I was stunned to see that Sun Life tops a list of Corporate Canada's mountains of cash - a recent Globe and Mail piece - with $6 bb. Could you speculate what they might do with it? Hopefully not purchase a US mutual fund like Great West did with Putnam! On the subject of lifeco's I stumbled across an ad for a class action lawsuit with Manulife, the stock that was touted to be as safe as houses. If you purchased shares between 2004 and 2009 - which I did - you should register here http://www.classaction.ca. It's free to join.
Q: Hi Peter and Team,
I recently purchased more shares of GS for my husbands RRSP during it's recent pullback at $28.46 as all the research I have done indicates that it is a good stable company with good growth, dividend and the potential for additonal special dividends or take. I was pleasantly surprised to see the bounce it today to $31.66 on the reported news that they were acquring another firm. I would like your opinion on this acquisition and would you continue to hold this stock? I know you like to hold for the long term but a 11% return in 11 days is tempting unless you see further upside.
Thanks for all the sound advice you provide.
Q: Hi team:
last time some members raised a question on PWF is in late Feb
I hold this for dividend income and hopefully some capital gain
It has been declining for awhile
Is there any fundamental reasons for this decline?
For a long term hold for dividend income, would you give it a
B or B plus recommendations ? Thanks
Q: CF.Agreed with your answers to Helen today.CF been on a tear since report of strong results on Feb 5($6.87) & your review on Jan 10($7.29).Thinking of buying tomorrow prior to release of results after market close on Jun 6.Worried that above already priced in expected result.Your normal good advice. Thanks a lot
Q: I recently purchased Fiera (FSZ) but it has been on a fairly steady decline for the past month. Are you still comfortable with your rating, and might this be a good chance to pick up some extra shares 'on sale'?
Thanks, Bob
Q: EQI Equity Financial just reported the results from their AGM. Looks like we all voted with Smoothwater and now S. Griggs is the new COB. Can you sum up where you see this puts the stock at this time and set up what the future may look like?
Q: Do you think MFC might shortly play 'catch-up' with their dividend? They did cut it massively a while back. Currently EPS is $1.62 while the Dividend is $0.52 {Globe & Mail, on line}. That is a payout ratio of only 32%.
