Q: Hi Peter,

After reaching a new high several weeks ago, Boyd seems to be dropping quite steadily including today. I would expect that they would benefit from growing operations in the us but is this a general reaction to everything paying a dividend or did I miss some report or analyst downgrade on the stock.

Q: My question is regarding TSL (Tree Island Steel) who today released 2nd quarter results.Could you please comment on the latest numbers ? Please state pros and cons with regards to this company being the great entity it once was prior to the housing collapse of '08. Would you know what % of their sales is derived from residential, commercial , industrial & agricultural sectors ? are they as vulnerable to the Chinese dumping very cheap fasteners on the market today as they were in their heyday ? thanx Norm

Q: so everyone's favorite company took it on the chin and convalo and inspira went down in sympathy with phm.
dalsin and greene did everything right and the street loved them, then they made a huge misstep selling shares, not being forthcoming with the market, appointing new ceos, putting some shares into a health fund. The first bad news is never the last bad news.please comment. dave

Q: Can I have your comments on the recent decline. Is it an over-reaction to HCG? If HCG is dumping brokers, couldn't SCB be picking these brokers up? Overall thoughts on the company as well.

Q: I read the questions recently about EFN.PR.C. Can you explain to me about Element's Preferred shares? The symbols EFN.PR.A, EFN.PR.C, and EFN.PR.E? They are trading below their issue price, and now yield 6.9%, 7.1%, and 7.2% respectively. They reset in a few years. What does this mean? Does it mean they reset the quarterly payout, and how is the new payout determined? Is there a significant risk they would substantially reduce the dividend? Would you consider them a good buy right now, and if so, which series would you suggest? Thanks for your help.

Q: DFN is down. Dumb question coming: The 15 core holdings (7 Cdn banks, 2 insurance cos, 3 oil related, 3 others) are all or mostly down. The markets are down generally. Dividend payers are down generally on fear of a rate hike(s). For income purpose, isn't all that 'just noise' for DFN earnings & payouts unless its holdings actually cut their dividends? current price is looking attractive to me. What do you think?

Q: Just to follow up, what happens to preferred shares that are trading below the issue price at the maturity date? Do they keep trading indefinitely under the same terms or expire at zero? Safety of income is fine but not at the expense of the initial investment?

Q: I'm at a loss about what to do with my Element Financial Preferred Shares (EFN.PR.C).

I bought 2k shares at $25.40 for safety and income. The threat of US interest rates rising hurt the price. Then the drop in CDN rates really hurt the price.

I believe the company is well run and I'm earning a nice dividend, but given the shares only move in one direction (down) should I just sell and walk away...a shoebox would have offered a better return. Thanks as always.
