Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: It appears that Devon Energy has expressed an interest in purchasing ERF. Could you look at potential synergies for this deal and provide any additional views (eg. any other potential suitors?).

Many thanks.

Q: Do you have any feel for commodities, specifically Oil and Copper, over the next six months to a year?
I would like to hide in some dividend-paying stocks.
Capital retention and some dividend gain is the goal right now.
With that in mind, I feel like this might be a good opportunity to buy Canadian banks, for the long haul and oil and commodities shorter term.
I would appreciate your opinion on my theory and these securities.
As well, any ideas you have would be great.

Q: I just read a contrarian report on Seeking Alpha regarding these two companies. Can you comment on the debt levels of each and their respective survivability in a prolonged long low price nat gas environment. In an RRSP, could they be considered decent ‘flyers’ for a small (1%) stake?

Q: I'm looking to diversify my portfolio by adding some US oil & gas companies, specifically EOG Resources, Range Resources or Chesapeake. Could I get your views on these and which order you would rank them for buying now (I know your coverage is for Cdn stocks so appreciate any thoughts you can provide!).

Q: re Chesapeake Energy Corp. CHK + takeover

Have just read an article spouting rumors (unconfirmed) that Exxon after buying XTO Energy in 2010 for the purpose of penetrating the shale gas market, is poised to become a leader in the market by acquiring CHK. I own Exxon for the long haul and was wondering;

1) what CHK looks like long term as an investment should the rumor not come to fruition?
2) how a merger if it did happen would effect both XOM & CHK?
3) any comments you have on the Shale Gas Market in general?

Thank Peter & Family, always appreciate and value your input
