Q: My friends who invest in the housing I.e rental apartments/townhouses seem to be making outsize returns...I personally feel this is because their purchases are highly leveraged. They require only a 20 to 25% down payment to buy a rental property. I personally think it is much safer and easier using a diversified groups of stocks.. especially with the great advise from 5i.but to make outsized returns one needs to borrow money..Banks give preferential rates for home purchases.whereas equity purchases are treated as riskier investments.What are your thoughts on this? I would also like it if your members weigh in on this subject.

Q: I have a list of companies that I come across more than once by reading the questions and answers and if you seem favourable with them they go on my list. Spinmaster (toy), new flyer (NFI) and ITC and Sylogist (SYZ) meet that criteria. All fur of them are under performing the market more than normal. Is there any of these that I should get rid of? I appreciate your advice. Dennis

Q: Over the past year HCG is down ~ 15% while FN is up ~ 45%. FN has an attractive yield and low PE ratio ~ 13 according to TMX. I hold most stocks in your balanced portfolio so wonder if it would be time to sell HCG and replace with FN.

Q: call options are being sold today on efn. how is this possible if the stock is to be split on oct 4th into two new stocks. I was interested in selling covered calls for apr 2017.

Q: I manage finances for my 93 year-old mother-in-law (she is demented but fortunately still a nice lady). Her investments are mostly dividend-paying stocks. I do need to raise some capital for her care. I am hesitating between selling shares in K-Bro Linen versus Boston Pizza Royalties IF. I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you.
